I'm a second grade teacher and this was a great read aloud for our reindeer themed unit. Only wish I had ordered more copies to use in small groups. The photographs illustrate the text and vocabulary terms very well. The facts were presented at just the right level for my age group. It really helped my students understand the "real" wildlife facts about reindeer compared to the magical ones they already know about.(23) -

I bought 3 copies and color them together with my daughters. WE LOVE CATS! The illustrations are very nicely draw, have great detail and capture really fun moments of cat life. We really enjoyed it, and I would recommend it to anyone at any age.(16) -

My daughter is six and loves reading about veterinarians. This book has interesting pictures and facts. I agree that it is appropriate for elementary aged kids. Nice size fonts and great for kids developing their independent reading at higher levels.(26) -

My son is in 1st grade and has to do a research project each semester. This time he chose leopard seals. The information in this book was written so that he understood it. The pictures were wonderful and very bold in color. He has to complete a list of questions about his animal and this book answered all but one. I hope there is a book on his next topic of choice!(2) -

Groundbreaking at the time of its publication, "One Day in the Life" was the first work on the Gulag to be published in the USSR. The fact that this book was published at all is a historical anomaly, induced by a strange confluence of events that resulted, incredibly, in one of the most repressive regimes not censuring a work which exposed one of its deepest secrets. Some contributing factors were Solzhenitsyn's own background (he had been a captain in the USSR army during WWII, and was not a member of the intelligentsia), the "Great Thaw" (a period from the mid 1950s through the early 1960s, during "de-Stalinization," during which censorship was drastically reduced), and Khrushchev's role in allowing the publication of "A Day in the Life" (he wanted to expose Stalin's crimes and the predicted fallout).

This is a wonderfully "cute" story about the mischievous Murphy-STOP. At least that is what he claims his name is! Murphy is an adorable little terrier, full of joie de vive, who lives a very complete day and manages to get into trouble without even trying.
The illustrations are colorful and cute and a beginning reader will really enjoy reading about the antics of Murphy-STOP! Great starter book! Murphy's expressions are priceless!(17)
