I believe Launch is the book education has been waiting for. Every single person in education has times when they feel they are not creative. This book is about breaking through the barriers and building ways to bring out creativity, rather than just relying on having it or not. With the maker movement becoming all the buzz in education, this book should be required reading because the framework ensures that you'll not just be "making a mess" but instead providing students the ultimate learning process and experience... and encouraging them to change the world. Not only does this book clearly lay out HOW to make it all happen, but it weaves in practical advice how to make it happen even WITH all of the other requirements we have in education. A great read and a great book to help you think about the right kind of ... full review(34) -

The authors have given design thinking a sophisticated but easy to understand and much needed new presentation. This book has already provided great fodder for conversations around the design community. I am a big fan and would recommend this to anyone trying to understand how to help people and organizations make the most out of complex opportunities. I will use the ideas in this book throughout my professional career. I hope I can meet the authors someday so I can tell them this in person!(50) -

As an experienced designer/design educator, I was happy to find some ideas here that I'd never heard before (or perhaps had forgotten). The book is a quick, easy read, making it an excellent way to get an overview of how designers think and work. Students especially will benefit from learning that there are many, many ways to approach any design challenge.
The downside, of course, is that you don't learn much about anything specific. No in-depth discussion; even the case studies left me wanting more. Fortunately the author lists resources with many of the topics that will help you learn more. Think about the book as a "Taste of Design" festival: sample a lot of things, decide the ones you really like, and at another time, in another place, dig in for a full meal.(33) -

First, this is a GREAT little book on Kindle or your Amazon cloud-- the publishers/ authors knew better than to use mice sized illustrations, formulas that get slaughtered, etc. on e-readers. The little "essence" curve diagram for design thinking, for example, (based on the more expensive and thorough previous text like books by these authors) is large, crisp, and nicely embedded in the Kindle page spread about asking the four DT "Whats" about what is, what if, what wows and what works.
In the sense of Gail Fairhurst's powerful framing book ([[ASIN:0470494522 The Power of Framing: Creating the Language of Leadership]]) this little book contains illustrative stories about how the frame of "design thinking" (a combination of creativity, customer research, engineering and marketing all rolled up into a strawman "how designers think" model) make folks like Apple successful.
This is where I start to differ a little with ... full review(22) -
