"O Brother, Where Art Thou? Still Around--- And Aging Very Well :-)" - By Chrystalia99 (Tucson AZ)
The fact that Homer, Hesiod, Aristotle, Ciicero and the rest of the "dead guys" are still around speaks volumes. Finding this book was like running into a group of old friends again--and then looking at all the "modern" and "new" books and movies stolen almost directly from the great masters of history.

Homer wears well, but it can be difficult to take in large doses if you're unfamiliar with classical language and the structures used in the ancient days.

"Great New Series!" - By Diane M
I have read most of the books by this author and I think this new book is one of my favorites! The story and world he creates is interesting and kept my attention from the beginning to the last page. I am anxious to read the second book when it comes out. Don't hesitate to read this book, it is excellent.

"Intriguing, excitement, adventure, and l a ughter alk in one book. Loved it!" - By Debbie
I love science fiction, fantasy, adventure books and it takes a really good one to capture my level of interest. I don't care for vampire books because they all seem the same.
This book has captured my interest, 1 because it's not about vampires as of yet. It has lead me to wanting to read book 2. That says a lot.
This book has all the genres that I long for in a book. Twist and turns, Perrin Briar has described the characters in detail to the point you almost feel your one of the characters. A simple book yet pulls you in with the descriptions of the mystical type creatures and enough adventure that makes you not only relate to the characters but that you feel you're part of the adventure also. I found myself holding my breath, sitting on the edge of my seat, and laughing at times. ... full review

"A bit confusing" - By Cocktails and Books (Rancho Cucamonga, Ca USA)
Elfreda (Frey) has lived in a small village with her Aunt Frannie. Her aunt either ignores her or makes her life a living hell. But Frey's life begins to take a drastic turn when she uses magic she didn't know she had to start a vine growing from a thistle. Frey soon finds herself on the run from her village council after being sentence for practicing black magic. She relies on the kindness of an elf she meets on the run and the man who she's not sure she should trust as he tries to outrun the council that wants to make sure her powers stay bound.

I felt as confused as Frey when I finished this one. While the story moves along from Frey's life in the village to her running and then meeting up with the ragtag group who help her, it's ... full review

"Betrayal and attempted rape sequences repeatedly ruin an otherwise OK storyline." - By GentlemanJim (Great Falls, VA USA)
If I had to do it over again, I never would have started this series. While a fun book to read initially, now finishing the 10th book in the series, I find myself growing very tired of how every woman faces rape situations in these stories. While an incredibly tragic part of reality, it quickly becomes 1-dimensional in all aspects of the book. The part where a prime character actually does get raped, I find myself wishing I had never started this series.

Ignoring all the frequent editorial errors (which I read about and didn't think much of until later, and now I realize is just sloppiness that wouldn't be tolerated in a middle school English class, let alone a for-purchase book) and other problems, the story always seems to resort to how the worst of people wreak havoc on the world and the worst traits present massive problems ... full review

"A fun and creative read!" - By ET (Connecticut, USA)
Such a fun, creative book with an interesting assortment of characters to pull you in. For me it ended up being a really quick read because I found myself wanting to know what would happen next. I'm already sharing it with several nephews who are the perfect age to appreciate it, and I hope this is the first of many books in this series. It's actually really fun to have "discovered" something to share with them!

"Awesome Gift" - By Elsie Catterson (Long Island, New york)
Great gift for my daughter, who has bicycled allover the world. She has now found new places to go. It did slow down our gift opening on Christmas Eve, since she wouldn't put the book down and go on to open her next present. It was ok though, we all needed a break anyway. Great book.

"Carefully crafted, well-written, and enjoyable read" - By Wise Young (New York, NY USA)
This is the first book of a seven-book (so far) series and you can tell that this is a magnum opus that is building up a world vision that is as big and complicated as the Lord of Rings. In 318 pages, the author has built the world of Seven Isles with care and deliberation. The hero, the younger brother of the heir to the family, found himself saddled with the responsibility of saving the world when an assassin killed his brother. Carried by dark forces beyond his understanding, he had to grow up very quickly to counter these forces with caches of magical knowledge and weapons left behind for him by a long-dead mage, culminating in a sword called Thinblade. He fights of hordes of mercenary soldiers, wizards, battle mages, and has to pass many tests of his integrity and ability. The fight scenes ... full review

"there were stories I loved and others were I was more meh" - By XE
As I'm sure is the usual case with anthologies, there were stories I loved and others were I was more meh. It's hard to put a rating on a book that has so many different stories because not all are the same for me. I know that's obvious, but it was still really hard to sit down at the end and go, "so what do I say about this?"

I liked more than I disliked. That's a plus. Several stories, even if they weren't my particular "thing" had strong voices that were so impressive I would recommend them based just on how well they were written. It's hard to put an age on this. Some of these stories easily would entertain a younger audience, while others were more in the adult category. I actually laughed over the back cover saying something about "no sex here" and thinking hopefully a ... full review

"Really really enjoyed this one" - By Dean
Really really enjoyed this one, it's one story the whole way through as opposed to short series or one-shots in some of the other Epic Collections.

When volume 2 comes out it's a must buy for me since I didn't read the original Dark Horse published version.

Good story with characters I was surprised I came to love so quickly.
