Studying this book and sharing copies of it with some of my cousins really opened my eyes to the potential in my extended family. We don't have substantial financial wealth, though there are a few deep pockets. We have several people in my generation who have achieved outstanding success in life, including one who's a major general in the Army and another who is a star on Broadway.
More than that, we have six generations of people who are used to knowing each other and working together because of a piece of recreation property that my great-grandfather bought 100 years ago.
That property has kept us together for 100 years but it won't be enough for another 100 years. This book got me thinking about what we can do for the next 100 years, and I see lots of opportunity to develop the "human capital" in this family ... full review(64) -

The one-two punch of Clare Archer (Consulting Editor) and Barbara R. Hauser (Advisory Editor) have knocked down the competition in the world of family office scholarship with the publication of this wonderful book. Bringing together fifty-two of the brightest minds in the field, Archer and Hauser provide the family advisor an important tool to facilitate meaningful discussions regarding the viability of a family office for a particular client. The book is broken down into two sections. In the first, twenty chapters tackle individual issues which arise within a family office – from formation to termination. In the second, eleven jurisdictions are discussed in detail. A word to the advisor who might think this book is not for her because she does not have the high net worth client base with the resources to form and operate a family office. Wrong! This book has application outside the family ... full review(2) -

There are very few books that can be found that explain the trustee beneficiary relationship in terms that can be easily followed by readers who are not lawyers or otherwise involved as professionals in the trust industry. This is one of the few and that fact alone will make this a special and popular book. In theory it is often said that trusts are a relationship but what does that mean and how do you ensure that it is a good relationship? You could almost go as far as saying that Family Trusts, a Guide is a "relationship tool book" that aims to point the way to good relationships in the trust context and provides very practical actionable exercises and approaches. Because of this I actually see this as also being a book about the topic of family governance, because the relationship tools that it provides can be used ... full review(7) -
"Great Book With Excellent Video Resources" - By Jason (San Diego, CA)
I purchased the Family Office Club association's family office database solution after attending a few of their events. This book is really more for people who are already raising capital from family offices or who work in investor relations and they’re trying to cover single and multi-family offices more thoroughly more so than someone who is new to the family office world and is not sure if they are a investor base they should be focusing on or not. If you are looking for a basic book on family offices I would suggest getting a single family office book to learn the 101 type lingo and details - this is really more for capital raisers or family office service providers who need a family office directory. I would say the one shortfall about the book is that it is short, the author makes up for it a bit ... full review(1)
