"A veritably new work and sound from Jorie Graham" - By Arthur Tedder (Cambridge, MA)
Unified Field has always been one of the dearest and most special works to me but what is so striking about From The New World is that it does not read like a selection from Unified Field and other works but rather like a completely new and distinct volume with an entirely original narrative arch. Strongly recommend. A veritably new work and sound from Jorie Graham.

""The fiend is coming!"" - By Xyon McKell
From the New World is a layered story building of events all the way back to the first volume. No point starting with the finale - read from the beginning.

The building, gruesome war and the dark secrets of Kamisu 66 Acreage come to a boil in an amazing conclusion. I had figured out one of the big twists ahead of time, but I was pleasantly surprised at the number of unexpected twists and reveals still packed into this final volume. The plotting and layering of From the New World has been exquisite, from the moral dilemmas and difficult choices the characters faced to the superb move and counter-move nature of the battles and conflicts waged. Important points are explained fully without slowdown, and the foreshadowing is perfectly balanced to provide context and impact to reveals without giving things away too early. This became a fantastic, wild ride once ... full review

""I do have your trust, do I not?"" - By Xyon McKell
From the New World is a layered story building of events all the way back to the first volume. Don't start here - read from the beginning.

Saki and company flee to the devastated remains of a once great city in search of a last ditch defense against the invading army and its fiend. Unfortunately there are some who think their allies might be more dangerous than facing their greatest weakness...

Everything's coming together nicely in this penultimate volume. Long running themes and questions continue to have great impact and relevance, pushing and testing the characters in horrific ways. I have a pretty good idea what awaits next volume, but the series has surprised me numerous times before. Either way it should be a wild ride to the end. The style and atmosphere is as always - great art, brutal violence, excessive fanservice, and incredible tension.

"Creepier and creepier..." - By Xyon McKell
Saki and friends' first venture beyond the barrier turns deadly when they go too far and get caught in a war between Morph Rat tribes. But an even more sinister danger is lurking somewhere else...

This continues to be a very odd but compelling series. It has a fair number of issues in presentation and execution, but it's so unique and the story so intriguing I'm thoroughly hooked. The tone and pacing are different here, as the in-your-face fanservice sections from volume 1 are absent (except of course for the gratuitous cover). The dialog is often long and a bit clunky. At the same time there seems to be information and/or context missing here and there, mostly regarding the featured romantic relationships. The plot moves at a breakneck speed. Only two volumes in and there have already been numerous major revelations, shocking twists, and shifts in the story.

""Beyond the massacre lay a truth yet more cruel."" - By Xyon McKell
From the New World is an intricate story that constantly builds on and refers to previous events. On top of that the series takes a new direction in this volume directly dependent on several ongoing plot threads. Don't start here - read from the beginning.

After the big reveals and changes of last volume the series continues in an interesting and unexpected direction. Saki struggles to deal with the reality of their situation, while a dangerous oversight from the past gives new enemies terrifying strength. And they might be an even greater threat lurking in the background.

I wasn't expecting the change in direction the story takes, but it fits and things come together perfectly in the most intense and harrowing volume yet. The secrets of the town are weighing heavily on our protagonists, and there are several little indications that this can't be the best solution. ... full review

""We had opened Pandora's Box."" - By Xyon McKell
From the New World is an intricate and layered story that constantly builds on and refers to previous events. Don't start here - read from the beginning.

The secret details of the dangers Group 1 overcame during their trip beyond the rope for Summer Camp is a treasured memory among the five of them. So why are warning bells ringing in the deepest corners of their minds?

A lot of ongoing mysteries and plot lines come together in this installment. There are several intense discoveries here that fill in a lot of backstory and present disturbing ethical dilemmas. The hard truths Saki and friends start to uncover are compelling, terrifying, and brilliantly twisted. The world building is just incredible overall. The overarching plot zips along at a breakneck pace while intertwining information and emotion in every step of the journey. Disparate conflicting hidden agendas involving powerful supporting ... full review

"The World that Made New Orleans" - By George G.
Ned Sublette has captured the cultural history of New Orleans in a way that connects the present to the past in some fascinating details for anybody familiar with the city. His explanation of the Chef Mentor Highway as derived from local Native Americans is accurate and yet hilarious. Mr. Sublette has carefully integrated several elements of culture from the racial inputs and how they developed and the national inputs of France and Spain, but he continues through detail such as the music we all revere and the origins in Africa as well as Santiago, Cuba. If you have any curiosity about how New Orleans came together as a unique city, this book will satisfy you and do it in a way that is entertaining as well as enlightening. While Ned Sublette does not hold anything back from the politics and economics of slavery, he does provide ... full review

"Outstanding Contemporary Literature Book" - By Trilogy Poetry Review (Wisconsin)
What I like about this book is the diversity it offers in terms of the authors published in the book. It is very much appreciated reading about contemporary authors who are Native-Americans, African-Americans, Mexican-Americans, Asian-Americans, and the like. Their views and writings certainly have added a diverse perspective to the world of literature. The poems, short stories, essays, and fictional drama pieces in the book open a new dimension and perspective in literature. The writings are refreshing and stimulating. They are closely related to reality and allow the imaginative spirit to expand and create specific imagery to go with selected pieces in the book. The instructive portion of the text is wonderful. Each chapter starts with an introduction and insight of what is to come. It breaks down the reading in such a way that the understanding is clear and unambiguous. The ... full review

    "Fantastic" - By Amazon Customer
I bought this for my daughters for Christmas and although we haven't started reading it yet, I love it already. The illustrations and colors are beautiful and folky; and the book is of great quality. I can't wait to read it to them throughout the new year, and for more to come.

    * Also, it arrived much sooner than expected! Not sure if that will happen for others, but I was really happy to see it before Christmas!

"YUMMY, YUM, YUM" - By Ceme (Pennsylvania USA)
I love cooking and I'm so glad I added this book to my library. Talk about mouthwatering. The first recipe, The Ultimate Grilled Cheese Sandwich, was so absolutely easy, but what made it different for me because I've never used anything but cheddar for a grilled cheese, was this one called for grated comte cheese and recommended Jarlsberg, Fontina or Gruyere as a sub. I love gruyere and never tried it on a grilled cheese sammy. I ran to DiBruno Brothers day one of receiving the book. Unfortunately, they didn't have comte, so I got my fav Gruyere, no more cheddar for my GCS, its strickly gruyere on sourdough for now on. My husband begs me on weekends to make this sandwich. Another recipe is the Herbed Tomato Tart, YUP easy, quick and absolutely delicious recipe. A new fav for me is ... full review

"A sweeping history of the world..." - By Raj
This is an excellent account of world history, written from a Marxist perspective. It marked the first time I've ever read a history textbook so coherent and thoughtful. Mainstream history is usually just a collection of facts. This piece of work presents history as a story, one that is meaningful and relevant to our lives.

"News of the World: A Novel - For Everyone" - By CS (Mountain View, CA USA)
There is no corner newsstand to get the latest news in print for the people that Captain Jefferson Kyle Kidd is wont to visit, remote areas. He brings them the news, his selections varying on the mood of those he reads to. Ever careful to avoid riling up opposing political opinions in these circumstances, Kidd, in his early 70s, still is a presence that warrants attention. As the story begins, Kidd is in northern Texas, reading to those who attend and drop their dime in the bucket to hear the news from around the world. He is approached in this northern Texas town by Britt Johnson, who convinces him to take a wisp of a child, ten-year old Johanna Leonberger, back to her family. Four years earlier Johanna had been abducted during a Kiowa raid and has now been “rescued” from the Kiowa. Offering Kidd a sum he can’t refuse, ... full review

"good book" - By Bayview (Plano, TX USA)
The author talks about liquidity, credit, banking, economy, asset markets with depth, historical perspective, reason and clarity. He also has a good grasp of politics and how it influencs people's pocket book. The author has a wealth of knowledge and lays it all out in the book in a way that is easy to follow.

The book gives the reader a very good understanding of the big picture and the macro factors that affect it. I learned quite a few things.

The reasons that I can not give it a 5 stars is because

1 There is very limited coverage of equity selection. For example, what type of equities will do better relatively in an inflationary period, or the characteristics of different equities and how to select them. The author talks about equity as a whole and at a high level.

2 The author gives the ... full review
