How Google works is without question one of the greatest books I have ever read about business and I have read a lot of them! I am a little older but am a young entrepreneur and the authors of this book have given everyone a front row seat to how one of the most successful companies has become that way. They are a company of engineers and computer programmers but the authors write in layman's terms and freely tell us their strategy on all the important aspects of business, including company culture, strategy, communication, hiring, and innovation. It takes a conscious effort for me to choose a book and to spend the time read it through. It is especially rare for me to write a review because that is a dedication of couple of uninterrupted hours (almost an impossible feat in my family with a relentless toddler). With that being said, this book compelled me to share my opinion because I think it gives an extraordinary first person (Laszlo Block) account of how a company (Google) excel with its talent acquisition, retainment, development, and sometimes termination. And most importantly, its continuous improvement to anticipate the needs of an ever-expanding company.
I believe the book itself attracts three primary types of audience;
(1) Managers and Executives who are looking to build a stronger team/company
(2) Human Resource personnel looking to develop themselves and their organization
(3) And finally, people who are interested in innovation/new ideas

First I must confess that I am a life-long geek-nerd and love all things about technology and business. Therefore, I am slightly biased towards books like this. I have a Droid and wouldn't be caught dead without my Google GPS... Now that I have put forth my disclaimers... I absolutely loved this book! It's the first time I've gotten so wrapped up in a business history book. Levy has an outstanding way with words, and his story-telling gift has allowed him to take what could have been a very dry telling of the Google story and make it interesting for the "everyman". Occassionally, he gets a little too deep in the technology, but one can forgive him for this because the story is so rich.
Essentially "in the plex" is a story of how Google got started and opens the door wide on its culture, visions, and business strategy. ... full review(212) -

I don't write a lot of reviews but this is a book I feel that needs one. I've been meaning to brush myself up on Adwords for awhile now, because as a small business owner, I never really realized how much money I wasted in the past with different avenues of advertising, especially within Google. I came upon this book and thought, meh, why not. 5 bucks for a paperback or $1 for the Kindle version. I'm an electronic everything guy so I opted for the Kindle version and within 5-10 pages I was already floored. After reading it front to back I put to use a lot of the practices described and it's already led me to not only gain more leads, but helped me to not overpay in the process. Thought I had little knowledge and read various guidebooks before this book, but I really needed to learn more that is why I grabbed this book last week. My closest friend told me about the quality of this book and also suggested me to read it too.
After hearing from her I didn’t wait to catch this book right away. Inside of this book the author has described about how to optimize & supercharge our business through social media site like Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, YouTube, etc. By reading this book now I have understood about the simplicity & multiple benefits of social medial marketing.

I have to disagree with the review that said this book was mainly for newbies.
