"Revolutionary, though repetitive" - by Silicon Valley Girl (Sunnyvale, CA USA)
I love Ellyn Satter's healthy attitude toward food and eating. But I did get a bit tired of seeing the magic words "Ellyn Satter's Division of Responsibility" on page after page. Still, Satter's ideas are revolutionary enough that maybe she needs to repeat them frequently to get them across. Her basic idea? You are responsible for presenting your child with nutritious food at regular meal and snack times. You are not responsible for how much your child weighs, you are not responsible for how much (or how little) your child eats, and you shouldn't even try to prevent your child from ever eating "junk" food. Just as important as Satter's theory of how to feed a family is her critique of our "fat-phobic" culture. And she's not just making it up as she goes along--she cites the research to support her theories. This is an important book.

"My go-to cookbook" - by Amy R. (Chicago, IL)
I absolutely love this book. It's become the first book I reach for when I'm meal planning. The thing that I appreciate most about the recipes in this book is that the portion sizes are completely realistic. It's not a "1/2 cup of pasta and 2 tablespoons sauce, with a sprinkle of cheese"-type healthy cookbook. There are so many light cookbooks and magazines where a recipe will be 300 calories a serving, but the serving is about a quarter of what a normal person would eat. With the recipes in this book, you can eat like a normal person and actually be full after one serving. I also appreciate the nutritional facts for each recipe, and the endless amount of customization and combinations you can do. Along with full recipes, the book gives you a lot of building blocks that you can use to create a meal (different sauces, variations ... full review

"Good reading" - by J. White (OR United States)
I can't say exactly when my daughter became a picky eater. She started off great eating different veggie and fruit purees, and somewhere around 11 months, feeding went downhill quickly. It may have had something to with her daycare provider or something else she perceived as traumatic, but her preferred diet became yoghurt, Cheerios, and bananas. I tried for almost five months to "get" her to eat other things, then bought every toddler feeding book I could find. This was the one with the best layout, and best philosophy.

Unlike the other books I got, I was able to read the whole book inside of a week, and was also able to read the specific chapters without needing to constantly reference others.

We have incorporated the philosophy and recommendations with our daughter and while she has only added one fruit to her diet on a regular basis, she is now at least ... full review

"Wok cooking is enjoyable when everything comes together" - by Interested Party
I have cooked on and off with a wok for many years. Getting through the preparation can take time but it is worth it when everthing comes together.

This is an interesting cookbook because it comes from past generation of cooking which I find interesting. This book starts out with an overview of Mama Li which give you a little background into the source of the recipes. The book explains the many different types of woks and give you what you should need to pick-out a wok if you don't have one.

The book goes on to talk about the health benefits of cooking with a wok and how to clean and care for your wok to get many years of use out of it. Then the best part is the recipes. There are many delicious recipes in the book with both protein and Vegan options to choose from. I will be ... full review

"Not for weeknights for a busy family" - by Busy Mom (Lexington, KY)
I was looking for a cookbook that was pretty manageable for weeknight meals while putting healthy and seasonal food on the table. I don't need more cookbooks that have complicated recipes with a lot of ingredients I don't ever stock and so many steps that it won't make it to the table at a reasonable time on the average night. Unfortunatey, this book was more fussy than I'd hoped for. The recipes are good and most of them have been enjoyed or at least tried by my kids. But its been relegated to the stack of "weekend only" cookbooks, which really wasn't my goal in purchasing it. The pictures are of their lovely family enjoying large meals around a huge table and thats exactly how this should be used- large family meals on weekend nights or special gatherings. I also find that their pantry is stocked with a lot of ... full review

"In LOVE with this soulful book..." - by Ronita
This book is a beautifully woven story of food in history. This mommy/daughter duo did an amazing job of capturing in each story what it meant to cook during that era. The women, the food, the love shared and lost. I personally can relate to Joan's love affair with cookbooks. I am a proud collector and love getting lost in these pages. It's not only a cookbook but a history book full of deeply soulful stories. I can't put this book down! Job well done ladies.
