"About what really matters" - By Marcos Bueno
In a very compact format, the author goes straight into what really matters when launching a new hedge fund. It will remind you that a hedge fund is a lot more than a well executed trading strategy; it also involves business processes and human capital management. By focusing on the bigger picture and by giving specific examples to illustrate the important points, this book really helped me visualize what underpins a successful fund.

"An Epic Contribution to the History of Finance" - By William Dahl (Redmond, OR)
This is the magnum opus on the hedge fund industry. As other hedge fund related books seek to either vilify the industry or brazenly praise the uncanny good fortunes industry insiders - this book does neither - which I found refreshing and a strategic positioning of this work from "the rest."

Sebastian Mallaby is currently the Paul Volcker Senior Fellow for International Economics at the Council on Foreign Relations. He's also a columnist at the WA Post and spent over a decade with The Economist responsible for international finance coverage - serving a bureau chief in Washington, Japan and southern Africa. He is the author of several noteworthy books on the political economy.

This work is an epic contribution to the historical evolution of certain financial products and the global industry(s) spawned therefrom in primarily, the western world. Welcome to the hedge fund industry, including an amazing cast ... full review

"More great insights continuing the series' excellence" - By John Forman (Wichita Falls, TX)
Before I get into my thoughts on Hedge Fund Market Wizards, I think sharing the author's own words will go a long way toward establishing expectations for the book as I've found that those few folks who have panned the series have only really done so because they went into reading the books with a mistaken view of what they would get.

"Readers who are looking for some secret formula that will provide them with an easy way to beat the markets are looking in the wrong place. Readers who are seeking to improve their trading abilities, however, should find much that is useful in the following interviews." (from the Preface)

And of course interviews is what the book is all about. There are 15 in this latest variation on the Market Wizards series, each with its own introduction and concluding summary of key takeaways. Again, we have ... full review

"Fasten Your Seat Belts" - By Ralph White (New England)
Wow! This book sets a new standard for the "...For Dummies" series. It goes well beyond what you would expect from a book with such a whimsical title. Ann Logue is smart, her research is solid, and her writing is perfectly colloquial. No BS, no jargon. If you don't have an MBA, or if you earned it before hedge funds entered the scene, take Logue's corporate finance tutorial, meaning start from the beginning. If you don't need the background, then jump to Part III, beginning on page 165, dealing with hedge fund strategies. This book covers the history of hedge funds, their regulatory aspects, asset allocation, risk management, the Greeks, transparency, due diligence, and perhaps the most important aspect, where does the alpha come from? Read it for fun; read it for self-defense, or prep yourself for an interview, but do read ... full review

"Inside View of the Inception and Philosophy of Famous Hedge Funds" - By D. Genchev
The author offers inside stories of the people and philosophies behind some of the most successful hedge funds and how they were started. The inside perspective is always interesting for the curious reader, especially when it comes to this secretive industry where fortunes are made (and lost) seemingly instantaneously. I found it a bit short and lacking in depth. But the book doesn't claim to be a biography of each of the hedge fund managers.

It does a good job of giving some perspective. Those seemingly instant fortunes came only after years of practice and often on the back of a good amount of failures and near misses.

"Entertaining and informative for any reader- from novice to market veteran" - By Matthew Schoenfeld
Scaramucci's 'Little Book' packs a lot into what amounts to a quick read. You don't have to really know anything about hedge funds or finance to enjoy the book, even initially- and if you're a novice, you'll certainly know a lot more about them when you're done. I actually had spent a year at a fund, and while I wasn't a novice (although I'm certainly no expert), I still learned a great deal. If you've read Barton Biggs 'Hedgehogging,' think of 'Little Book' as a slightly edgier and shorter, but just as entertaining, updated edition.

Once again, those without limited or no prior knowledge of the industry will learn a great deal. Scaramucci approaches and simplifies the topic without the pretentious inside-baseball vernacular often associated with investment texts. He runs through the history of hedge funds- why they matter, their relative size, who invests in hedge funds, what strategies ... full review

"It is what it is" - By A. Pamplona (Lisbon, PT Europe)
The best attribute of this book is that it doesn't mislead the book buyer by presenting a big and juicy carrot on its title, only to fail the reader expectations throughout the book. In a nutshell, if you want to know what does mean covertible arbitrage, market neutral, distressed securities, merger arbitrage and so so, you'll get a detailed answer in there.

Chances are, however, the book buyer is searching for sources of inspiration for her own investment portfolio or her hedge fund selection process. In that case, the book is not worth it because it doesn't provide any evidence of what could be the strategies that might benefit the most from the current state in financial markets or which might benefit from future states or under uncertainty, etc. The book is just a compilation of known hedge fund strategies, a technical dictionary if you will, where you get ... full review

"Great book by a very intelligent author" - By BR
Highly recommended. David Stowell (the author) is a highly regarded professor at the Kellogg School of Management and is very well-versed on this topic, having decades of finance/investment banking experience before moving into academics. So it is no surprise that this is a great book on the subject. I was told it was one of the best books to learn about the investment management world, and that certainly turned out to be true. The cases were particularly interesting.

"Very good book. Tim is still transparent to this day. ( A little cocky too, but that's okay :)" - By K. Moritz
Very Good book. I am an advocate of his teachings. His transparency is important. New comers need to pay attention and learn the details. Emotions are your worst enemy. Trade using facts only. What you 'think' will happen, may burn you. Learn, learn, learn. Then bet small until you acquire successful patterns.
There are a lot of folks trying to make money from subscribers and while he is one of them, he (and his team) actually take the time to teach. "There are no shortcuts, period." If you invest the time to learn, anyone can be successful in the market.
