"Feel the burn!" - by j.w.
I recently completed Martin Rooney's TFW book, and loved it. After taking some off time, I switched to Tyler English's program. I love Tyler's no-nonsense approach to body building. His program is amazingly robust and flexible, and he doesn't place himself or his program on a pedestal. All of the exercises are simple, and the workouts he has within are deceptively simple. While I'm still very much an amatuer gym rat, I looked at the first workout (a leg-centric on the 4 day split routine) and thought, "that doesn't look too bad." An hour later I would have put my foot in my mouth if my legs felt anything more than jelly. These workouts are intense, and if I didn't have a decent base I certainly would have to scale back the weight or reps. I've completed two weeks so far, and have already made a decent gain in size ... full review

"When one fitness writer can compliment another on their work, that makes for a pretty strong endorsement" - by M. Spitzer (Fort Lauderdale, Florida USA)
Since I am a scientist and fitness author myself, I try to make a point of keeping in touch with all the stuff that comes out regarding fitness related topics.
I saw some of the negative comments here to the effect of ... "this book says nothing new"
I felt compelled to comment on this and defend Mr. Matthews.

The truth is that there really is not a whole lot new in the area of weight loss, muscle building and fitness.
In fact if you look at old Joe Weider magazines from the 1960s and 1970s, you will find most of the "old school" principles discussed then are still what works great today.
The use of compound exercises and reps ranging from warm up to heavy in a classic pyramid were the basis of routines used by guys in the pre-steroid" era.......... guys like Grimek, Steve Reeves and others.
But some of this classic training ... full review

"Safe, Sensible & Very Effective!" - by Bodybuilding Champion
Bodybuilding can be a very confusing subject, especially with so much conflicting information around. This book puts things in proper perspective for some very efficient gains.

Don't let its simplicity fool you! The information is accurate and result producing.

Drug Free trainers have a habit of following the advice of "enhanced" athletes, only to come up short in achieving the type of goals set for oneself.

Give this program a try, but remember to not deviate from it in any way. Adding or subtracting from the program is not following it!

"A find for fans of Reeves" - by R. Gorey (New York)
Too bad this great book is out of print, and therefore so expensive. Fans of classical bodybuilding will admire the great photographs of Steve in his prime, and will find much to admire in this practical, logical, and inspirational guide to getting in shape. Hardcore enthusiasts and fans of monsters like Dorian Yates may think the approach (and Reeves' physique) almost quaint, but the author's proportions were classical and his look is still stunningly impressive: what used to be considered in saner times "the Olympic Ideal". The book is worth a look, if you can find it, and bound to be a collector's item very soon.

"you should have a great editor, technical writer" - by Dave Vensel
Let's start by saying that if you plan to write and self-publish a book in English which is not your native tongue, you should have a great editor, technical writer, and probably a layout/graphic desinger person on your payroll. While some of the info is good, there are so many typos, mispellings, grammatical errors, misuse of common vernacular, and messed up page breaks, not to mention an overabundance of repetition within and between secrions, that reading the book is a bit of a chore. Use a highlighter and take a few notes and use those as your references and you should be fine. The technical info is pretty good. Plucking it out and keeping it relevant and making it useful is a chore. I bought it in part because it was cheap......

"informative practical easty to follow advice!" - by dorourke
I find this book filled with easy to follow advice, routines, and eating plans for the natural bodybuilder/athlete. There is far too much information circulating in this field that misguides the reader, or leads one to unhealthy practices. I like Tonys practical approach. The book is very informative and insightful. It has helped me to refine my eating plan as well as workout routines.
