This guidebook is really fun to read (the author is quite witty). I can honestly say I was never steered wrong once. Every listing comes with subway directions so you can get easily from one place to the next, the book was really well-organized so I could always find what I was looking for easily and the author does a great job in explaining the city’s layout (helpful maps!). I never thought I’d be able to take the subways, actually, but I did thanks to this book and got around so quickly I was able to see everything that was on my list—a list I made, thanks to the blunt, informative reviews in this book. Oh and the food! I don’t know if ALL the food in New York City is amazing, but the restaurants recommended in this book are. We had a few splurge meals, but even the cheaper ... full review(34) -

Great guide for planning one's visit in the comfort of your home and getting a general idea of the city's physical environment, because of its many color illustrations and maps of the many attractions of this great city. As other DK guides, it is a high quality printed book, pleasant to look at. The principal limitation is its weight, because of the quality of the heavy stock it is printed on. I don't see myself carrying this heavy tome around while on the go in NY. I think that one also enjoys this book after visiting NY, for its photos and illustrations will bring back the memories of the great time you spent during your visit.(49) -

I was in the middle of researching my trip to NYC (with a different book) when my sister gave me this guide. I can’t tell you what a difference it made. It’s really straightforward, well-organized and light, so I could slip it in my purse and carry it with me. At the front is a section of “Best” experiences, which really helped me figure out what would fit best with my interests. This was followed by a really helpful section of suggested itineraries which I ended up building my vacation around. The book itineraries made seeing lots of things actually doable—and fun, instead of stressful. They divided the city up by area, so I wasn’t running around to see things, I was able to do what I wanted in a much more logical fashion and I even had time to relax. Good guide both by content and structure.
The only problem is that Kindle does not have a go back option - so once you read the text and click the map regarding a particular site, to go back you need to find which place you had been reading previously that related to the map, which is not convenient.

The best pocket guide for visiting New York. It literally fits in a shirt pocket. Chock full of useful and practical information for anyone visiting a city that has so much to offer. Of course, if one is a first time or an infrequent visitor, one may need to supplement this guide with a more traditional one that includes more descriptive text, ratings and such. But even for such persons NFT will prove to be useful once on the go in your visit, if one does not want to be burdened with a bulky book. NFT guide is easier than using your mobile for finding facts quickly.(9) -

I have used different guides for different trips but I always come back to Fodor's. Good summaries of the main attractions, lots of food and hotel recommendations, contains a great map to take with you while you are exploring, and general practical tips. If it's missing anything, it is probably the lesser-known attractions. If you are going for a short trip and just want to see the highlights, this is all you need. If you are going for a long trip and want to see some more unusual things, you might want to pick up a second guide, maybe a Lonely Planet.(55) -

I had the Secret London guide so just had to get this one now I live in NY. Even without having visited the various places or objects yet as it only arrived a few days ago I've so far enjoyed just reading about the unusual places and items and their stories. New York city has come a long way from forest and dry land, I have never been to new York but when I do, I would want to visit mostly for the historic side though it might be tempting due to the massive attractions. I have learned allot from this book and this has definitely heightened my influences of the state.(7) -

We walked the whole High Line, looked around Chelsea market and had wine at this stylish wine bar the author recommended after I emailed for a suggestion. It's like having your own tour guide!(14)
