For individuals in a product role (or looking to move into a product role), I highly recommend Dan's new book and would go as far to say that it is required product manager reading.
Not focused on ‘lean’? Don't skip over this one. The book provides a comprehensive guide for all the various stages of managing a product that can be applied to any software related development philosophy. Dan does a great job of weaving together the theory of managing products along with real world examples so you can see how they may be applies in your situation.
My favorite section was on the topic of prioritization. Understanding how to prioritize features and new product opportunities is one of the core requirements of being a product manager. Dan's approach of comparing current satisfaction level against value is a great approach and when coupled with implementation time, is a ... full review(107) -

List Price: $97.00 Price: $60.77 You Save: $36.23 (37%) "The Best Product Management Book I Have, Hands Down" - By Danielle Vincent (Los Angeles)
Really, the title says it all. This is the most valuable product management book I've bought. It's so thorough and well-written that I have been reading it straight through. It covers all aspects of Product Management, including strategy, forecasts, cross-functional team management, business cases, launch, and post-mortems. I cannot recommend this book highly enough. If you are a Product Manager, you can't afford not to get this book. My copy is filled with copious notes, underlines, highlights, and is dog-eared on many sections. I have recommended this book to my whole team. And no, I don't know the author. This is completely based on my own experience using this reference as a Sr. Product Manager for a major entertainment company.(77) -

Wow, talk about a bible for product management. As a disclaimer, I am not a product manager (yet). However, this book essentially outlines what product management is, what it isn't and how a product manger can be successful. This book was recommended to me by an experienced product manager when I expressed to him that I was interested in the field.
*Of course, like the actual bible, it should not be followed verbatim but rather be used as a compass(244) -

Roman makes clear that there is a lot of work to do prior to starting your first development iteration when you're dealing with products of any size. His Common Pitfalls section is particularly useful to someone trying to coach agile teams. And his characterization of different anomalous Product Owner types (we've all met The Ghost, haven't we?) are pithy and memorable. My only wish is that the Kindle version did a little better job of the graphics, but that's a nit.(62) -

List Price: $35.00 Price: $18.41 You Save: $16.59 (47%) "Enjoying the Kindle Experience" - By Jan (Asia)
I purchased the kindle version even though many reviewers have warned against that. I work in China and did not want to deal with the hassle of waiting for delivery and customs of the physical book. I used the kindle app for PC laptop to read the book and access the link to the strategyzer website. The purchase verification process on their website was easy. All the visuals can be downloaded as PDF posters from the website. So I have found that all the problems mentioned in previous kindle reviews have been dealt with in a reasonable manner. (Don't know why format says paperback - definitely purchased Kindle)(169) -

List Price: $65.95 Price: $58.70 You Save: $7.25 (11%) "What we've all been waiting for..." - By Steve
This book baselines the meaning of what product management and marketing is for the industry. Not only does it describe in detail the act of managing a product from conception, through commercialization, and finally through retirement; but its inclusive nature of the other functions involved (project management, business, analysis/architecture, user experience, and Agile product owner) differentiate it from all the rest. This is the super structure I've been waiting for. Product management and development can't be done alone and this BOK finally recognizes that. It breaks away from the silo'd BOKs of the past and forces a collaborative way of thinking. As a project manager, I finally feel like PMBOK has more meaning. This is the industry anchor I've been looking for.
