"Love the look of these books and they look great ..." - by Tina M. McCallum (Troy, Michigan)
Love the look of these books and they look great in my daughter's room. I am anxious to read these stories to her when she gets a little bit older or she can read them herself. She's only 3 right now but there are some great classics in there just waiting for her.

"Heidi" - by Marjorie R. Morrow
This was one of my favorite books as a child--I don't think I've read it since then. I loved this 2011 edition translated anew. I didn't even remember how beautiful the story was seeing it afresh as an adult. This was also a favorite book of my mother and her 2 sisters when they were young. She encouraged me to read it like she always did, while eating Swiss Night cheese (those little foil-wapped triangles)--I used to climb into my backyard tree, eat my cheese, read Heidi and picture being in the beautiul Swiss alps! Thanks to Amazon.com and this perfect new copy of an old classic.

"steam powered excellence" - by I Teach Typing (Miami, Florida USA)
I can't believe that a 130+ year old book translated to English was good enough to keep me up half the night but this brilliant old gem did. The story features the height of late 1800 steam technology and a couple of heros who want to circumnavigate the earth in 80 days to win a bet. The characters are surprisingly likable and the action is just GREAT. Put this at the top of the queue for great free reads and you will get a wonderful easy read and a brilliant view of the world.

"Excellent but not for younger children" - by Misty Forest
We love this edition. We are a homeschooling family with eight children and I have a dual BS in elementary and special ed. So for our family, they have cut their teeth on unabridged verions of classics and good reading. This is nothing they can't handle.

For those who have purchased this edition for their children and complained it was too dull and boring for them, this does make sense. When your children are not used to hearing an English accent or to listening to stories with vocabulary they don't understand, they are not going to enjoy this. It doesn't mean the edition isn't any good - it means your children simply aren't ready for it yet. It is the same when reading the KJV of the Bible verses the NIV. Some people are simply not familiar with higher vocabulary or different sentence structure.

I agree that this ... full review

"A Great Telling" - by Dusk
My 12 year old boy read the Howard Pyle version when he was 11. He enjoyed the songs in Pyle's Robin Hood, but he got lost frequently. Green's version is much more comprehensible. Now he knows the story!

"Stories with various meanings." - by Kindle Customer
After I read each story, I had to stop and think. Were they funny, did they give me a lesson or was there more to the story than I first thought? They turned out to be like stories in the Bible that seem to be teaching me something, but the meaning changes as I think about them. Once I started reading each of the stories, I had to keep reading to the end.

"A Very Victorian Arthur" - by Danny Norbury (NJ, USA)
There are many versions of Arthur and the boys that are worth reading; Le Morte d'Arthur, Four Arthurian Romances, or even novelizations and outlandish ones such as Mists of... and Dawn of Avalon. All have something to offer
readers who wish to delve into the rich legends and lore where the rules of Chivalry dictate the action and
in which the exploits of errant knights are captured in all their glory.

In this work by Sir James Knowles, we are treated to these outlandish tales through a very Victorian lens.
While some reviewers may see this as a deterrent, I found that this perspective took very little
away from this fine work and, in some ways, enhanced the storytelling to a degree. The detractors focus on what's
not written. The broader influences of Merlin say, or the omission of certain tales (the green knight), or ... full review

"Good presentation of a classic" - by David A. Bryant (Dedham, MA)
(This is a review of the Kindle reader version.)
This edition contains the original illustrations, which adds to the authenticity and charm of this version and added to the pleasure of reading it.
As an adult who enjoyed the "Wicked" book series, I am not sure I ever actually read this story as a child. Certainly I watched the film many times. Reading it now, i can appreciate the style, the writing, the charm, and the enchantment of the story.
i recommend this for children, for adults who want the background for "Wicked," and for parents and grandparents to read to children. It has an old-fashioned simple yet fantastic approach that i hope and expect will always appeal to children.

Absolutely lovely. I love the original story, so I was excited about pre-ordering this. I bought it for Anna Bond's illustrations, and they are perfection. The dust jacket is very nice too, but the just the bound book is a beauty.

"Eight select adventures in a light-weight package" - by C. Pras (127.0.0.0)
This book is among my favorite Puffin Classics series. For one, I enjoy reading detective stories like Sherlock Holmes, and the eight select cases are chosen wisely to represent various landscape of England--from London's foggy streets to ranch and countryside. Some well-known cases such as 'The Speckled Band' and 'The Reigate Puzzle' are included in this book.

The eight classic adventures featured in this book are:
The Adventure of the Speckled Band
The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle
The Musgrave Ritual
The Reigate Puzzle
Silver Blaze
The Adventure of the Dancing Men
The Adventure of the Six Napoleons
The Missing Three-Quarter

And just as in other Puffin Classics books, the adventure doesn't stop at the last page of the story. Following the final chapter in the book is a supplementary reading about the author, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, as well as the characters in his literature. There are ... full review
