"If you like film noir movies you will like this four movie ..." - By paulg
If you like film noir movies you will like this four movie set that includes two great ones. Out Of The Past was my favorite of the two film noir ones and was worth the cost alone.

"but that's part of what makes it so great. That" - By Mark L. Pessoni (St. Louis, Missouri United States)
Confusing as all get-out, but that's part of what makes it so great. That, and the awesome Bogart quips and the Bogey and Bacall interplay. This movie is pure joy.

Embrace the intricate plot. Soak in the humor. Feel the heat from Bogey and Bacall.

"Five Stars" - By AWP (Charleston, West Virginia)
Perfect transfer of a perfect movie. I have been fortunate to have seen museum prints of this motion picture, and this is one of the best film to video transfers I have ever seen. A case can be made for the motion picture being THE great American movie. It certainly is well-deserving of it's place alongside Vertigo, Citizen Kane, Sunset Blvd., The Searchers and 2001. Does not get any better than this.

    The Enemy Below
    Amazon Video ~ Robert Mitchum
    Price: $2.99
"The Enemy Below Review.... below." - By Paul Farmer (Roseburg, Oregon, USA)
The seminal battle between the veteran warriors tired of a pointless war, you will see it's legacy in many "cat and mouse" dramas where the two protagonists are trying to out think (out guess?) each other. There is a homage (french for ripoff?) to the movie in a Star Trek episode involving Kirk and a Romulan commander in a shielded Warbird. An interesting aside is that one of the co-stars was a young David Hedison who found some fame later on TV as another submarine 1st officer in "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea". The interestingest piece of that is that he apparently went by Al Hedison in his early career. Great movie... enjoy!

"Marilyn at her best but more rugged" - By Mountain Climber
I especially love this film for the scenery and songs Marilyn performs. Typical of the times it was made in, one scene in particular a bit forced and unnecessary. She and Robert Mitchum look great together, love his characters son as well. I've watched it several times over the years and keep coming back for more.

"Picture & Sound Could Have Been Better!" - By Diane C. Lytwyn (NEW ENGLAND)
The quality of the picture and sound in this DVD were a bit disappointing. The movie is great!

    The Hunters
    Amazon Video ~ Robert Mitchum
    Price: $2.99
"Jet-Propelled Action !" - By peterfromkanata (Kanata, Ontario Canada)
"The Hunters" is a well-made, exciting Korean war drama, with the accent on aviation. It has an above-average plot for this type of film, and the whole movie, particularly the aerial sequences, is expertly directed by Dick Powell. If you are interested in combat aircraft, there are many scenes of F-86 Sabre Jets engaging MIGs in dogfight battles to the death.
While the planes are great to watch, this film is primarily about human beings caught up in war. It stars Robert Mitchum, and he is terrific--his fighter pilot character is a born leader, yet he also suspects there is something important missing in his life. He enters into a guilt-ridden relationship with the wife of another pilot, played by lovely May Britt. When there's a war on though, the feelings of two people aren't worth--as someone once said--"a hill of beans". Mr. Mitchum's main job is to lead a ... full review

    Holiday Affair (1949)
    Amazon Video ~ Robert Mitchum
    Price: $2.99
"Funny, heart-warming, thought-provoking, and inspiring...a great Christmas story!" - By Beemerguy53 (Bel Air, Maryland)
I first saw Holiday Affair more than 30 years ago, in pre-cable days, as a late-late-late show movie. I've had it on VHS for years, but it's been unavailable on DVD until now. Watching Holiday Affair has become a Christmas tradition in my home, and I'm very pleased to see it released at last on DVD. If you've never seen this little gem, you're in for a pleasant surprise!

Set in New York in the aftermath of World War II, Robert Mitchum is at his manly, take-charge best as a recently-discharged soldier trying to make his career dreams come true. Janet Leigh is beautiful, vulnerable, and very appealing as a young war widow, with a little boy to support, who is being courted by a successful attorney (Wendell Corey) she likes but doesn't love.

Mitchum and Leigh's lives intersect at the department store where he ... full review

    Crossfire (1947)
    Amazon Video ~ Robert Young
    Price: $2.99
"Anatomy of a Hate Crime - Long Before the Term Was Coined" - By J. Michael Click (Pineville, Missouri, USA)
    Movie: ***** DVD Transfer: *** Extras: ***1/2

Director Edward Dmytryk's stark, hard-hitting examination of a hate crime was way ahead of its time in 1947, and has lost neither its topicality nor its punch in the years since. Based on a Richard Brooks novel ("The Brick Foxhole") about the senseless murder of a gay man, the script dropped the book's sub-theme of homophobia to focus on the more cinematically "acceptable" topic of anti-Semitism. Despite this concession to the Production Code, what emerged was a mature, pungent indictment of all crimes motivated by discrimination and blind hated that was nominated for five Oscars: Best Picture, Director, Adapted Screenplay, Supporting Actor (Robert Ryan), and Supporting Actress (Gloria Grahame). Also deserving award consideration were top-billed Robert Young (arguably giving the best performance of his decades-long career as a taciturn police detective) and supporting actor Robert Mitchum, ... full review

    The Friends of Eddie Coyle
    Amazon Video ~ Robert Mitchum
    Price: $2.99
"May be the finest American movie of the '70s" - By Todd Solley
There aren't enough superlatives to describe Robert Mitchum's performance in "The Friends of Eddie Coyle", a flawless masterpiece about the wages of sin. If you think you know Mitchum and haven't seen this film, you owe it to yourself to see a true master at the peak of his powers. Peter Yates' direction is uncompromising, challenging and never falters. This may be the finest American movie of the '70s. Yes, better than "The Godfather" parts I and II, better than "Apocalypse Now", even better than "Chinatown." If you haven't seen "The Friends of Eddie Coyle", you haven't seen the most gifted American actor of his generation give the performance of a lifetime!

    Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison
    Amazon Video ~ Deborah Kerr
    Price: $2.99
"I Love Robert Mitchum!" - By patricia c. (Wisconsin)
I have loved this movie since I first saw it as a youngster - it is still one of the best - I have always loved Robert Mitchum - what female doesn't? - I love the sweetness of the relationship between him and Deborah Kerr's character - I love that he wanted to marry her, take care of her - in my own version, she doesn't take her final vows, and actually DOES end up with him! - but I do that all the time if a movie doesn't end the way I want it to! - this is a great movie which had stood the test of time - anyone who has never seen it ought to get it - you'll not be disappointed!
