"A Buffet Of Cheese" - By Robert I. Hedges
Where else can you get fifty sci-fi movies for less than seventeen bucks? For value alone this set gets four stars. The movies themselves have largely been reviewed elsewhere and vary widely in quality from the pretty good to the sublimely awful.

It took me a few months (seven, to be precise) to make it through all fifty of these, and while none were life changing; some were good entertainment or (more commonly) good for a laugh.

    Some of my favorites include:

"Santa Claus Conquers the Martians": one of the silliest concepts in history. Don't miss Pia Zadora in her role as "Girmar" (an acronym for "Girl Martian," by the way) and the most annoying theme song in film history by future "Gong Show" bandleader Milton Delugg.

"The Incredible Petrified World": this one starts the set off right with John Carradine in one of his gassiest ... full review

"DOESN'T need another review, but SOMEBODY needs to knock the review-average UP a notch" - By Michael Grösch-McCluskey (Wach†küppel haus #111, Wach†küppel, Germany)
Great movies from back-in-the-day, when there were more DRIVE-IN MOVIES than
    McDonald's.

The transfers through my blu-ray player into my 55" TV were just fine, and not
suffering from any resolution loss; though there are no chapter or time indicator
features on this, or the OTHER 4 film collections. Bring an egg timer, eh?

    Briefly:

======> "THE MAN FROM PLANET X" pleads for help from a Scottish Reporter.
    1.33:1, B & W, 1951

======> An American Pilot crashes "BEYOND THE TIME BARRIER" to the year 2024... after the 1971 plague!
    1.33:1, B & W, 1959

======> "THE ANGRY RED PLANET" has unfriendly Martian plants and some GIANT, weird-lookin', mouse/spider-thing.
    1.33:1, Color, 1960

======> "THE TIME TRAVELLERS" go 107 years ahead when a post apocalypse, few, "normal people" are mutant food.
    1.66:1, Color, 1964

"So bad as to be hilarious- don't miss this collection!" - By Jon
This incredible DVD, comprising a collection of 50's sci-fi movies, was a dream come true for me, particularly for one of the four films preserved on it. This movie is "The Giant Claw," from 1957. I first saw it in a New Hampshire movie house in that year, as part of a summer camp outing. The film deals with a huge, vulture-like bird that flies all over the world, wreaking havoc. While a familiar theme in that era, what distinguishes this film is that the special effects are so poor, that they are hilarious, particularly the bird itself. The producer, Sam Katzman, sought to have effects done at the most minimal of cost, and had them completed by an unknown firm in Mexico (sorry about that, Mr. Trump!). The marionette bird employed can be seen suspended on strings, attacking an HO gauge train, in ... full review

"Good Time for B Movie Classics" - By Pen Slinger
Fun collection of B movie sci-fi. Quality is about as good as it gets unless somebody out there remasters and presents it on Blu-ray. But if that were to happen I think those films would lose there charm. "The Deadly Mantis" appears to be the only disappointment. Universal gives us a pan and scan version of a matted widescreen version! And, it would have been cool if the set came with some special features. Still a good price for $15 or under.

"Amazing memories, amazing value" - By flexiduck
Can't beat the deal. Contains virtually all of the West German-made early '50s Flash Gordon TV series, as well as the amazing "Captain Z-Ro"; also, the entire first "season" of Rocky Jones and much of "Scott McCloud, Space Angel", not to mention "Tales of Tomorrow" and "One Step Beyond". Then there's various miscellaneous items, including the very interesting unsold pilot from the late '50s, "Destination Space" and even an episode of the unique "Johnny Jupiter". Plus, three complete 12-episode movie serials that saw a lot of TV play. No Tom Corbett, Space Patrol, or Rod Brown, but what is there is great. MANY hours of fun and happy memories.

"Universal Sci Fi = Tremendous hours of Entertainment" - By Dan the monster movie fan
First off Universal Pictures is awesome especially they're horror/sci fi films, I love em all even awful ones like Cult of the Cobra 1955. All the films in the set only come with a theatrical trailer as a special feature. Each Volume comes with 5 films.
Volume 1 is better than volume 2 but volume 2 is still cool.
    Volume 1:
The Monolith Monsters 1957: 2 1/2 stars out of 5
The Incredible Shrinking Man 1957: 5 stars out of 5
Monster on the Campus 1958: 4 1/2 stars out of 5
    Tarantula 1955: 3 1/2 stars out of 5
The Mole People 1956: 4 1/2 stars out of 5

    Volume 2:
Cult of the Cobra 1955:2 1/2 stars out of 5
The Land Unknown 1957: 4 stars out of 5
The Deadly Mantis 1957: 5 stars out of 5
The Leech Woman 1959: 2 stars out of 5

    TRON The Original Classic (1982)
    Amazon Video ~ Jeff Bridges
    Price: $17.99
"Happy 20, TRON!!!" - By Luis M. Ramos (Caracas, Venezuela)
When I reviewed TRON in its original DVD release, I gave it four stars and said it was an underrated movie. Even though I think I made that judgement because I considered the fact that almost nobody really liked the film. How wrong I was!! Sometimes I wonder why I didn't give five stars in the first place since I think I am one of the few people who loved TRON. I should have trusted my instincts. Now Walt Disney Pictures has released the 20th anniversary collector's edition DVD of a movie that I have always considered my fourth favorite movie.
TRON is the first film that experimented with computer graphics animation and scenery, and the fact that it was shot along with flesh-and-blood people made it more appealing. Jeff Bridges is terrific as Kevin Flynn, a computer programmer who is sucked into the ... full review

"Good dumb fun" - By mrliteral
In an older Simpson's episode, "camp" is defined by a character as something that is tragically ludicrous or ludicrously tragic, to which Homer responds, "Oh, like when a clown dies." No clowns die in Volume 1 of Warner Brother's Camp Classics, but this threesome of B-movies are definitely campy. By most standards - special effects, story, acting, direction - these are pretty weak films, but somehow, enough bads occasionally make a good.

This set is titled Sci-Fi Thrillers. Disc One is Attack of the 50-Foot Woman, which is definitely a cult classic, not a real classic. In it, Allison Hayes plays Nancy Archer, a wealthy woman whose trophy husband has started playing the field, leaving her to drink herself into oblivion. One night, she encounters a giant alien, but no one believes her. A second encounter somehow results in her growth to fifty ... full review

    Gorgo
    Amazon Video ~ Bill Travers
    Price: $7.99
"GORGO BLU-RAY IS MAJOR IMPROVEMENT" - By Casey62 (Chicago, Illinois)
England's answer to KING KONG (RKO,1933) and GODZILLA (Toho,1954) was the independently produced GORGO, which was released by MGM in 1961. Although lacking the iconic stature of its two cinematic precursors, GORGO is nonetheless a thoughtful, well mounted monster on the loose tale that's still largely underrated.

The story concerns the discovery and capture of a prehistoric creature off the coast of Ireland, which is then transported to London where it becomes the star attraction in a circus. The exhibition comes to an abrupt end when the creature's gargantuan mother arrives to claim her offspring and levels London in the process.

Directed by dino-film veteran Eugene Lourie, GORGO features good performances from its two leads, Bill Travers and William Sylvester, as the sea divers who capture Gorgo and then begin to differ over the morality of the venture. The heart of the film resides in young Vincent Winter's ... full review

"Amazing!!" - By Alexander W. DeLuca
As a fan of the original series, these episodes are awesome! Paramount apparently restored all of the original content (including that cut by the decreased air time allowed now), enhanced it, put most in HD format, and did amazing CGI work that replaces all the optical effects available at the time and even adds ships and items that weren't in the original.. the episodes in this collection can be purchased one at a time... check it out!

    "Great Classic!!!" - By mariposamarta
I had a hard time figuring out the new series, so figured I would start with the original. Great story, reminds you of the old star treks and what happened to them over time. I think I will enjoy the new ones now. The plan is to watch them all in order. I did have a problem finding the second episode, so I think they don't have all the original series on to stream. Better than nothing though :)
    Thank You!
