This is the first book I pick up when I have a question about smart cities. Carol has deep knowledge and experience in the energy and tech space, and she is able to communicate her experience and insights in ways that most tech authors simply can't. This is NOT your typical engineering text, nor is it a standard 5,000-foot lecture from some academic's or captain-of-industry's vantage atop a high tower. This book is technological philosophy in its fineest form, and it should be read by anyone interested in the topic of smart cities. It was written to be readable and digestible by anyone who has a sincere desire to learn and engage. Regular people. Technologists and engineers. C-level executives. All can easily read this book, and all will derive value from it. It was written about people, for people, toward an ethic of people-centered city design for a better future.(3) -

List Price: $58.95 Price: $42.18 You Save: $16.77 (28%) "Essential Reading on Urban Renewal/Urban Planning" - By Hugh H. Schwartz
Beyond Smart Cities makes two important contributions. First, it presents the observations about urban planning in many cities of an individualho has been most involved in that area as a consultant and as a World Bank staff member. Second, while many writers argue for urban renewal to achieve one or several objectives and then proclaim what they believe is best to achieve those objectives, Tim Campbell emphasizes the need to pay attention to the dynamic process of achieving urban renewal/urban planning--to learning, in his view. He explains what he means by learning, offers useful observations on the degree to which various urban renewal/planning experiences involved learning, as well as a helpful chapter on how cities might go about improving their learning. Unforunately, for the most part, he describes end results, not learning processes. He does not really explain how learning has taken place and does not offer a cost-benefit type ... full review(4) -

A quick and heavily illustrated guide to smart growth. This topic of planned growth has been around for a long time. It is clouded in our obsession with urban sprawl after the 1940's and WWII. With it making a dramatic comeback now, this book is a good introduction to its principles. A suggested read for anyone getting into the topic!(48) -

Price: $24.00 "a helpful book for my research" - By Mrs. Smith
I find this book very helpful for my research on open data. It seems the author put a lot of effort and time to bring theoretical and empirical parts together. I don't want to say it's boring, but if you are looking for entertaining reading on smart cities and other futuristic stuff, then it's definitely not an option, because the book is based on serious research and case studies, which I personally was looking for.(3)
