    "Inspiring" - By Tracy
I purchased two kids' arts and crafts books: Kids Create and Art Lab for Kids. I looked at the Art Lab book first, and then was very disappointed with Kids Create when I looked at that book. Kid's Create is entirely in black and white and totally uninspiring. I was looking for an art book with drawing, painting, printmaking, and mixed media activities suitable for children that would not only invite creativity but also start to lay a foundation for a basic understanding of art materials and artistic techniques. What's more, I was looking for activities that left room for true creativity in the final product despite using specific techniques. The Art Lab for Kids book was attractive and inspiring. It's activities will be fun for my 6 year old son, but they'll be just as fun for him at 10 and 17 (and for me)and feel fresh even when ... full review

"THE Art Book for Teachers" - By Caela McCarthy
Having endured my first year of teaching middle school with nothing more than random Google searches for "Great Art Projects," I entered my second year determined to do art right. The art projects that I had attempted to do my first year were fine, but it was tedious work scraping together lesson ideas. I couldn't find anything that was inspiring, authoritative, and exhaustive in scope. And I got tired out really fast.

Then I found this book. To be completely honest, I've only had it five hours. But I'm blown away! It is FULL of resources, ideas, and teacher helps. It is an encyclopedia of art lessons across the whole spectrum of artistic scope. I love, love, love this book. How did I ever survive without it?

"Handy resource" - By Artchick (Carthage, MO)
I purchased this book for some new ideas for art activities in the college class I teach for elementary education majors. It is nicely arranged by formal art elements with clear, concise directions. While it has worthwhile classroom activities, those concise directions can be a bit thin for most teachers that don't have any art background, unless they are the more motivated type that will do some deeper study into the art elements and principles covered in the National Visual Arts Standards. The one other problem is in the examples pictured in the book, which are obviously done by an adult, and not very imaginative uses of the lessons. Real-live kids would give far better effort than is pictured throughout the text.
Overall, this is a nice resource for the classroom teacher.

    "The Basics" - By Carme
This book has all the foundation knowledge necessary for an upcoming art student. The exercises are relevant and the skills required really caters for beginners. Not bad for brushing up on your skills, good for a teacher for lesson ideas.

"Great for textbook." - By artteacher23
I will be using this for the college class I will be teaching this fall. I have never used a textbook because I had never found one worth using. It was a special joy to find I knew some of the schools and at least one of the teachers whose students' works were used as examples.

"Great supplement to Art History class" - By DH888
Great supplement to Art History class. Only drawback is that the lessons correspond only to artists from the Renaissance on. Book was in excellent condition and arrived on time

"Excellent, excellent book on how to teach kids art!!" - By Molly (California`)
This book is the best I have seen about how to teach art to children, and I have looked at a lot of them. She talks about what kids can do developmentally in art at different ages and she has a great open-ended approach with lots of motivating questions to develop the projects further into the kids' own ideas. She organizes the book into drawing, painting, clay, printmaking, construction, collage, and social studies. And best of all, not only do I love this book, but the ideas I have tried with my kids have been huge successes. She includes lots of practical advice from her 25 years experience and enough material to be doing art all year with kids, and the next, and the next. This book has me covered for homeschool art for a long time. And it is so enjoyable to ... full review

"Where the rubber meets the road!" - By Quilter (USA)
This book was a gift for my son who last year taught middle school music in a public school setting and this year is teaching elementary music in a different school. He said this book is so good that he wished he could send this book to his colleagues as well as to his principal in his former school! He said it is a gold mine!

"an absolutely essential text for future art educators" - By Cindy Meyers Foley, Director of Education, Columbus Museum of Art and Center for Creativity
"This is an absolutely essential text for future art educators as well as a must-read for current teachers who want to rekindle their creative teaching. At a time when student creativity in this country is on the decline, this book provides inspiration, tangible strategies, and- most importantly- the challenge to make the art classroom the indispensible creative center of every school."

"A Timeless Antidote to "Education Experts" and Their Academic Bafflegab" - By James E. Egolf (Florida)
Gilbert Highet wrote an informative yet charming book on teaching. THE ART OF TEACHING was published in 1950, but Highet's suggestions and insights are still useful and relevant. Highet would probably be shocked over what is now expected 56 years after this book first appeared, but his book is still important and useful.

Gilbert Highet not only presents effective suggestions, he enlightens his readers about The Great Books of Western Civilization. This is important in that intelligent men have been good teachers. For example, Highet cites Socrates (c470-399 BC)as an example of a good teacher and one not impressed by the more "professional" sophists. Highet cites Huxley as a great lecturer, and lauds Henri Bergson (1850-1941) as examples of knowledeable men who could effectively lecture to large audiences. Highet gives high praise to the Jesuits whose passion for knowledge and good teaching was well ... full review

"Great resourse for Primary Grades" - By HH (United States)
This book is a great resource for learning how art is put together as well as experiencing different types of 2-dimentional art. This book is an easy read for the educator. Each chapter has projects for helping children understand the concept as well as recommendations for children books that put the art idea into action.

The book begins with the elements of art such as line, shapes, texture and so on, this is followed by the principles of art like harmony, balance, movement ... and finally to artistic styles such as realism, impressionism, etc.

Example: Chapter 8, Variety and Contrast
explains why artists use variety and contrast and what methods they use, references to fine art and children's literature are given, apply technique by drawing flies in different sizes, facing different ways and with different patterns

Note: You do not need the reference books to ... full review

"Totally changed my approach to teaching art" - By H. McLean (California)
Well, I must confess the book itself didn't change it, but rather the whole approach to teaching that the book is about - T.A.B. I already knew quite a bit about TAB before I bought the book and by the time it arrived I was worried that it was going to be a) it too focused on elementary art programs and b) stuff I already knew.

The book did not disappoint. The focus is mostly on elementary, but not in a way that makes it useless for middle school (can't speak for highschool though). It really does focus on artistic behaviors and those carry though to the upper grades. It is concise and well organized and actually, reading it after I had already plunged into TAB was very clarifying. The book serves as a great backbone for learning about TAB.

Regarding TAB itself...OH MY I ... full review

"I love this book" - By mommyme (Pennsylvania)
I love this book. I have used Tullet's workshop techniques in my middle school art classes and with younger kids at church. The workshops are a great way for everyone to participate in creating art.
