I love the book. I traveled to The Big Island 7 years ago for my 30th wedding anniversary and I wish that I had a copy of this book back then. The only disappointment was that the pictures were not in color. After reading this book, I ordered more titles by this author. The author writes in a laid back conversational style approach, with very specific directions for the hiking locations. The author knows the Island well, that is clear.(5) -

I loved this book for my trip to the big island. The restaurant and hotel recommendations were spot on. I also used this guide to pick a helicopter provider and which helicopter journey was right for me. The pictures made the book fun to read and it occupied me both before the trip, on the plane ride over, and while there relaxing by the pool.(31) -

The book contains everything we needed to pick out the best spots for our abilities and interests. It also contains many helpful hints on equipment and techniques. When we received the guide it made us want to fast forward the date getting there. The Trailblazer armed us with all we needed to fill our vacation days, only ten days. We checked other books, this one is the most current with most things to do there. The hikes were exhilarating, especially at volcanoes park and the Hamakua coastal drives over the moon. We are planning our return in 2015.(19) -
