Tom’s book is an amazing resource for designers. He explains (in a conversational tone) how to effectively articulate and defend your design decisions, with a focus on presenting to, and persuading stakeholders.
As a UX designer, I struggled the most with explaining my design decisions to a room of executives. This book helped me become a better designer and taught me to think differently about communicating my designs. My key takeaway was that presenting designs is a learnable skill — take time to write down design decisions, practice for meetings out loud, anticipate reactions, and continually build empathy for stakeholders.(80) -

A great dive into user experience tools and techniques. Leah first discusses general concepts of user experience, comprising the first half of the book, and then, in a more or less linear fashion, discusses different exercises and tools to explore an idea. Great if you want to learn more about user experience or are working on a specific idea and want to approach it in the best possible way.(39) -

List Price: $19.95 Price: $15.12 You Save: $4.83 (24%) ""Hands-on" Workbook" - By K. Fosson
The Workbook is a great hands-on way to learn the thought process of UX design. It is very easy to follow, and it will get you in the habit of observing interfaces around you...and definitely get you sketching.
I found that a lot of their suggestions for collecting images, ideas, etc could be done with Pinterest, but as I said before, this is a very hands-on book, and the authors seem to prefer physical collections over virtual ones.
Great ideas for creating templates to work from, using office supplies to make iterations, and more :)
As someone interested in becoming a UX designer I know this will be a valuable resource!(25) -

It turned out to be a bible for me!(66) -
"Great Teaching Tool!" - By lara mc
I was so excited to come across this book. It clearly and comprehensively defines the theories crucial to being effective at interaction design. It was a quick and easy read and I learned things I can use to explain to clients and colleagues why their designs should look this way instead of that way. I teach graphic design at the college level and have made this book a required reading! It was written by a teacher and works well with interaction design curriculum. Excellent teaching tool, interesting read!(42) -

Sketching User Experiences: Getting the Design Right and the Right Design (Interactive Technologies)by Bill Buxton

List Price: $49.95 Price: $27.61 You Save: $22.34 (45%) "But one can sketch in code too" - By Steven Forth (Vancouver BC or Cambridge MA)
This is a compelling book. It manages to blend business, organizational and design thinking on the user experience. In doing this, Bill Buxton makes the case for (i) the centrality of design in driving business value and (ii) the importance of investing in the design process. The importance of exploration and play in design is called out, and the role of making multiple light, inexpensive sketches of alternatives as an important part of the design process. Buxton also brings together the separate histories of the industrial design (the people who make things) and the software design worlds, sprinkling in some lessons from film making for good measure. And he reinforces the importance of knowing the traditions and their high points if you want to innovate. All of these lessons are vital to our collective future.
