"Excellent Instruction" - by Ben (Chattanooga, TN)
I really like this book. A lot. The information is fantastic and will have you rolling in no time, but the layout really is something else. This is one of the most pleasantly designed books I've ever encountered, and I do a ton of reading. If you're looking at the page count and feeling intimidated, don't. There's a lot of open space on most of the pages, and the actual text you're working with is short and sweet.

I work in IT, but I've never really messed with HTML or CSS before. With that in mind, I spent a couple hours skimming through this and checking out the HTML lessons on w3schools, then downloaded Adobe Brackets and went to town. I may be pretty lame, but I've been having a ball with this stuff.

Very interesting material written well. I'd recommend this to anyone and everyone. Money definitely well spent.

"Pretty much the only book you need to learn html ..." - by Mark Bau (Woodend, Australia)
Pretty much the only book you need to learn html and css. This book is written by a person that was involved with inventing this stuff, Robbins knows her subject inside out and conveys it in simple, concise but thorough language. I only wish more "how to" books were written this well by a person that knows their subject so well. Would give it 6 stars if I could!

"Do you need to learn HTML and CSS quickly? Get this set." - by Yeng C.
This is likely a premature review, but I have just finished the HTML and CSS book. This review will be revised as necessary once I finish this set, but I have to say: what an amazing read. I have previous experience programming in R and Python, and found the exposition to be very coherent and very clear. About 10 hours through reading this book, I could actually read and understand most HTML code on a webpage. I have experience here and there having to write simple HTML pages on the fly, but it's nice to finally -understand- what the code is doing and have a good idea on how to structure a web page. Highly recommended for people who need to learn HTML quickly and don't have time to Google absolutely everything! The CSS section is just as great, but it will take longer than 10 hours to go through. ... full review

"If only everything in life was this easy!" - by Mr. David Bull (UK)
As a complete newbie to CSS I had problems getting to grips with it, I forgot about it for about 18 months then decided to revisit it.

That's when i came across Bootstrap 4, it was going to make my job as an Instructional Designer much easier as I could now easily use the grid system to layout my elearning content the way I wanted to, plus all the added code just made everything look so much better and more professional.

But....where to start?

That's when I came across this book!

The way everything was explained with examples made learning so much easier and quicker and within a few weeks I had decided never to go back to using some of the other elearning software out there!

The bonus for me was that if I was ever stuck I could contact the author of the site (and book) and Jacob would help me out as ... full review

"Not just a collection of CSS snippets, but solutions, principles, best practices, and an education in CSS." - by michai (MELROSE, MA, United States)
Lea Verou's CSS Secrets reminds me a bit of Dan Cedarholm's Bullet-Proof CSS from the early days of "Web 2.0," -- in the sense that it not only teaches you approaches for solving common problems, but in the process it revisits some CSS basics and can serve to "backfill" on concepts you may have skimmed over when you first started using them (margin collapse, anyone?).

CSS Secrets walks through a series of techniques in detail, with notes on the principles behind the tricks, and information on cross-browser compatibility. Most of the techniques offer multiple alternate approaches, each with their own pros, cons and tradeoffs.

Dense with great tips and valuable techniques for the working designer/front-end developer, with best practices upfront and peppered throughout. Too much to absorb in the first read-through--I suspect I will come back to this book frequently for a long time to come.

"Fantastic text for beginners" - by Joshua D. Washburn (Chicago, IL USA)
I am new to the web design world. I chose this text to learn HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for myself so that I could teach it to my students. I am so thrilled with everything about this textbook. Printing, layout, content, exercises, etc. The author has done an excellent job at making a complex subject simple to understand. I would highly recommend this text to other teachers.

Many of the standard textbooks out there are incredibly expensive and boring. This text makes learning easy and fun.

"I would highly recommend this book to anyone hoping to start a web ..." - by Edios (Laurel, Maryland)
I would highly recommend this book to anyone hoping to start a web design business. I have experience in designing websites in Wordpress but this book provided me the business foundation for running a successful website business. The book need not be long, the information was on point.
Useful links to helpful resources eg. how you can build a web design portfolio volunteering for non-profits with Catchafire. I called my first client this afternoon.

"Very good" - by togegawa
This is a good book for doing personal web page in HTML 5 and ssing CSS 3.0. It however, does not include anything on how to do commercial sites especially ones that have online inventory and ordering. Nothing at all is included, nothing!

"Good book but too focused on Dreamweaver" - by Juan Diego
The book is a good tool for beginners, such as myself. However, it supports a very important portion of its explanations on Adobe Dreamweaver. For first time learners such as myself, who don't happen to own that Software, this becomes a nuisance, since you fail to receive the complete explanation or concept, and instead get the "it comes automatic in Dreamweaver" alternative.

"Must Have, under $40 is a steal!" - by Alvin Nguyen
I received the book last week and already found myself lost into it. I have the HTML & CSS book as well; these books are great references for any level of coding. I took a 10 week Front-End Web Development course from General Assembly and it was pretty rough, I had no coding experience at all and struggled through the JavaScript portion. This book is amazing, it offers great illustrations of all codes and the results. I've read a handful of coding books and by far this one of the best, if not the best. I would say this would be close to a magazine if anything, just the format itself is gorgeous, it's not heavy on the text like other books and everything is color-coordinated so you can easily follow along. If you hate reading lengthy, lackluster coding books, then is the book for ... full review

"Useful and inspiring for beginners" - by Ollie
This book takes you through every step of creating a Wordpress website; from purchasing a domain and web hosting, to building and maintaining a content-rich website/blog for successful SEO and building a following. It contains useful links to various plugins and tools you can use to develop a quality website that runs smoothly. I particularly like the fact that this book emphasises the importance of creating quality content to attract visitors that come back rather than just creating a good looking website. It has inspired me to focus on giving value to visitors to create a successful website. There is a selection of free ebooks at the end of the books which is an added bonus although I am yet to read them. I will certainly read back through this book for future reference when maintaining my website.

"Great book, but book is too large for strength of spine." - by Hannah McGivern
The book has a lot of pictures/examples which is helpful for learners. It brings about a strong foundation and lots of insight to a variety of different topics. The physical structure of the book is poor though. It is vary large and flimsy (-1 star). The contents of the book are spot on though!
