"A very good complement to practical learning" - By ABDUL
It is very good because it is easy to read and well organized. Some people would complain about a lot of images and empty spaces, but easy on the eyes for me and give you info in bites. The best way to use these books it to combine them with practical training (widely available online or on YouTube. Like SoloLearn and CodeAcademy). Read the relevant chapter in this book first, then practice it. Coding needs reading and practicing using various sources, because no single source gives you the whole story. It is a matter of accumulating bits and pieces of knowledge.

"Good book but too focused on Dreamweaver" - By Juan Diego
The book is a good tool for beginners, such as myself. However, it supports a very important portion of its explanations on Adobe Dreamweaver. For first time learners such as myself, who don't happen to own that Software, this becomes a nuisance, since you fail to receive the complete explanation or concept, and instead get the "it comes automatic in Dreamweaver" alternative.

"More Reference than How-To" - By Hi Noon
I like the author's earlier books much better. (I guess I was spoiled.) They seemed much more goal oriented. This one reads like a reference manual, although it is much better than the other reference manuals I have. I urge the author to please go back to a goal oriented approach.

"Just What I Was Looking For" - By Candace L Lahm (Pukalani, Hawaii United States)
Building Websites for Dummies is easy to understand and learn from. I would never have guessed how interesting and easy HTML could be, but this book explains it well. Quite a bit of reference to Dreamweaver CS6 which I am sure I will appreciate more once I am able to afford the program. Many examples and step-by-step directions from learning the basics to more indepth procedures. I highly recommend it.

"Fantastic text for beginners" - By Joshua D. Washburn (Chicago, IL USA)
I am new to the web design world. I chose this text to learn HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for myself so that I could teach it to my students. I am so thrilled with everything about this textbook. Printing, layout, content, exercises, etc. The author has done an excellent job at making a complex subject simple to understand. I would highly recommend this text to other teachers.

Many of the standard textbooks out there are incredibly expensive and boring. This text makes learning easy and fun.

"First day I got the book, 1 bug bites the dust." - By Yi Liu
I rarely leave product reviews, but I had to in this case in the hope the author may see this. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

I've had an annoying UI bug that I've spent hours on and once my solutions started getting most heinous I decided to live with it instead of writing ungodly amounts of code for something that should be resolved with 1 line of css. For a separate issue a coworker recommended this book. (I couldn't wrap my head around how some css shapes are defined, the math involved etc.) While browsing chapters I found chapter 7, the section titled "Taming table column widths", and it changed my life. It had a great explanation on what the problem was with pictures and diagrams of exactly the issue I was seeing and also the solution had a similar explanation and picture of how the css property fixes the ... full review

"HORRIBLE binding, EXCELLENT content!" - By Randy (Austin, Tx)
[[VIDEOID:9235ad27a49bb8e0389f9751f27e6076]]UPDATE: I had a spiral binding put on my book for less than $4 at Office Depot and the book is better than how it first arrived. It looks better, the functionality of page turning is better, and most importantly...no more loose chunks of pages threatening to break free. Honestly, I think Wiley should recall all of the paperback books and offer this type of fix or send them out like this for free as this binding issue is the only problem this book has and is no fault of the authors! Excellent book made better by having to spend more money to fix the publishers lack of quality! Buy this book and just immediately take it to have a binding put on it and you will not have any problems, trust me!

The binding is complete JUNK, but the content is excellent! As ... full review

"The logic and syntax behind HTML & CSS is easy enough for your grandma to understand" - By The dude
The logic and syntax behind HTML & CSS is easy enough for your grandma to understand, but why is it not so straightforward to learn and retain? You can only learn and master HTML & CSS by using it. This book will help you build websites from scratch, with visual examples next to the code so you can see how the elements of static webpages are constructed. If you want a get-it-done approach, there are tools like WordPress that will build websites for you. But, if instead you want custom tailor your webpages, so you can produce exactly what you need from your minds eye, this book will show you how. Developing pages is not easy, but this book make the learning curve more gentle and less frustrating.

"Super cute" - By Aileen (Chicago, IL)
Super cute. I bought this book for my web developer coworker as a gift for his new baby. At first he assumed the terms would be out-of-date but he was pleasantly surprised after flipping through the pages.

"A step-by-step guide to design processes... for experts and newbies alike." - By p.esteves (mexico)
Whether you have ample experience in design thinking methodology or you are about to embark on your first product/service design process, this book will be helpful. And while it won't explore or explain concepts and principles, it provides an effective "How to" methodology and step-by-step approach to lead a design process with your teams or clients. From simple pro tips like stocking up supplies and preparing the "sprint kits", to enticing ideas and exercises to effective brainstorming, prototyping, and testing, this book is full of proven tools.

I particularly liked the flexibility it provides to design your own design sprint. The authors did a great job in recommending different formats and durations, pitfalls and common mistakes to avoid, and a "toolbox" approach: you pick the right tools for the job from all the options they document very thoroughly. Despite the book's title, me and my team used some ... full review

"Well written, edited :& documented book on creating websites responsive to different devices" - By Dog's Boy on the Sunny Southern OR Coast (Coos Bay, OR, USA)
Great book on the methods of designing & coding web sites so that a single site design works on monitors, tablets & phones of all sizes.

I found the book to be very well written & edited, with illustrations at key points demonstrating what was being described. This is better than most books in my experience.

There are many facets to making a web site "responsive" to the device viewing it. This book covers them all in a convincing way. From the media queries that embed decisions about when to size the web page in 1, 2, 3 or more columns (or the width of those columns), to the typography & content that might be more appropriate to one versus another device characteristic.

I would not only buy the book again in a heartbeat, but I'd buy other books by this author because of her clear & ... full review

"A great overview for businesses" - By Maxwell Edison (Omaha, NE USA)
I've been building business websites for more than 10 years. I can tell you that most businesses are spending way too much on their sites. They do this mainly out of ignorance -- they don't know a lot about interactive communications so thus can easily be oversold by development companies and agencies.

One book I've suggested to my customers for a few years is [[ASIN:0470385413 Building Web Sites All-in-One For Dummies]]. For a book with "dummies" in the title, it provides a very good overview of how professionals approach a site build. Unfortunately, it is almost 800 pages and many of my clients just can't bring themselves to start it, let alone finish it.

That's where "Website Design and Development" comes in. It covers much of the same material as the "Dummies" book, but it's shorter and easier to read. I can tell this was written by a ... full review
