"Very Insightful and Enlightening Book" - By J.E. Grace (MISSOURI, US)
Excellent book on writing for the children's market. This book is very thorough on the do's and don't of writing an effect children's story. Interview at the end of the book was very enlightening. It gives the reader a good insight into what children's book publishers are really looking for and how the process works. I would highly recommend this book for anyone who writes for the children's market, but can also be helpful in the overall story construction for any genre you write for.

"Stunning" - By Melissa (Robertsbridge, United Kingdom)
I can't recommend this book enough for writers wanting to hone existing skills, learn how the industry works, and come to understand how instinct translates into sellable work. I first bought this when I was a teen and devoured it from cover to cover. Now, many years later, I still read it for pleasure sometimes, although I long since learned everything from it I possibly could!

One word of warning; the terminology and advanced studies involved may confuse an absolute beginner. I would say it's not the best place to start if you've never written before, but for intermediates onwards, it is a dream. I've recommended it to many people over the years and they've never been disappointed! Even an old hand at the craft can enjoy it simply as a nod-along piece and a reminiscence of when they didn't know any better!

"A reasonable book for first time writers" - By Amazon Customer (Canada)
I thought this was a reasonable book, written by a writing coach, for new writers.

About 30% of the book is what I might call "feel good" encouragement of various kinds, concerned with overcoming self-doubts, lack of knowledge, lack of skill, etc. Much of this material might be called fluff by experienced writers, but it might be very necessary and appropriate for new writers. So it's OK to be in this book for new writers, I think. And it did come across as very caring and encouraging.

I thought the best sections of the book where on editing, after the first draft. The sections on beta readers, and working with editors also seemed pretty solid. There is nothing after getting the final manuscript done, but that's OK because it was outside the scope of the book.

I would recommend this book to any first time author.

This small book is a great snapshot of the writing wisdom I've enjoyed as a member of Andi Cumbo-Floyd's writing group. If you want to write but think you don't have anything to say, this book will teach you the value of your words. If you want to write but don't know how to make time for it, this book will give you practical ways to do so. If you are stuck, this book will help get you unstuck. Highly recommended.

"Exactly what it says it is" - By Rebekah Prince (Perth, Australia)
This book was exactly what it promised to be. An entertaining, short read, with tons of great writing advice drawn from and illustrated by the tv show Friends. I can see how this might particularly appeal to fans of the tv show, but it really isn't necessary to have watched the show to understand and get a lot out of the book. I was a faithful fan for the first few seasons of the show and dropped off after that, and I still understood the points the authors were making from episodes later in the series that I missed. The only thing I might have liked to see is a short, quick reference guide at the end of the book succinctly summarizing the main points of each chapter.

"Written for kids but useful for adults, too" - By J. Green (Los Angeles, California)
A friend recommended this to me with the understanding that it was written for young people, and my first impression was that it would be great for my kids but I would have little use for it. Instead I've decided that I really like the way the various components of writing are discussed in short and easy to read chapters that really get the point across. Plus it's inspiring, making the concepts very easy to apply.

The book covers the basics of writing fiction and does so in a very illustrative manner. It talks about the proper way to use dialog, adding details that help to set a tone or make a point, and others. There are a lot of instructive writing "assignments" that I didn't do, but which my kids found kind of fun. Overall, a nice and succinct book on the fundamentals ... full review

"Tucker & Zach have mastered a new way of writing ..." - By Steve
Tucker & Zach have mastered a new way of writing & publishing your book that is (likely) faster, easier, and more rewarding than the "traditional" methods. You can publish a book of professional quality without any of the pains or drawbacks of "big professional publishing houses". If you've spent months or even years of your life wanting to write a book but never pulling the trigger, invest a few hours into "Book In A Box Method". It may make your authoring dreams come true.

"One Of A Kind" - By Chris Bell
I am a 'music journalist' for two websites and have been looking for something like this for years. I don't think there is anything else out there that is not only dedicated to writing about music, but looks at it specifically with web copy in mind. The authors they have collected here are people in the field that I respect. Furthermore, because it is populated mostly by music writers, the book avoid coming off like a textbook. It is really a fun read. I believe everyone involved took the approach that this wasn't a definitive text, so much as a grouping of ideas about how one CAN approach music writing. As such, it is really a unique book that I highly recommend.

"The Effect of the Teacher we all wish we'd had." - By Amazon Customer (Seattle, WA)
I must confess two things: I'm already a Kooser fan and I only found him because he's the current poet laureate of the United States.

But since I came upon him he's become my favorite, not only for his superb writing, but for the person who shines through in every sentence in his poems and in this book, The Poetry Home Repair Manual. What this book isn't, is a list of all the do's and don'ts, of forms and rules. It's not a list at all, but an invitation to have a fireside chat about poetry, get cozy and talk about our favorite subject. And because Ted is a gifted teacher he can't help but share the kinds of observations that let us come away with tremendous insight and learning. What this means is that, as a result of reading The Poetry Home Repair Manual, you will become a ... full review
