Like many good ideas, Altrec began with old friendships, chance meetings and what would become a shared vision to help people get outside through the Internet. A team of six shaped Altrec's original vision: Mike Morford, Blaine Donnelson, Jerry Lessard, Shannon Stowell, Debbie Steinberg and Don Pickering. These "co-founders" brought various areas of expertise including Web design and development, consulting, business management and importing and exporting of outdoor gear to create this outdoor lifestyle destination website.

Altrec is based in Redmond, Oregon in the shadows of the beautiful Cascades and high desert country of Central Oregon.

What is your return policy?

We are committed to providing the highest quality gear for your outdoor adventures. Altrec provides world-class service, exceptionally fast delivery and a straightforward buying experience. 

We want you to be satisfied with your Altrec.com purchase. We want to make sure you have the right gear for your next outdoor adventure. If something isn't right, we will accept your return for a full refund as long as the returned product is unused, in original condition and includes the original packaging and tags.

Altrec does not accept returns for used, damaged, direty and/or incomplete products. Please take extra care to ensure your item(s) meets these standards before returning it to Altrec. Any returned products not meeting these standards will be charged a 10-20% restocking fee.

Due to health and safety regulations, all sales on the following types of product are final and cannot be returned (this is not an exhaustive list);

All load-bearing climbing equipment and related hardware accessories. Examples include: carabiners, quickdraws, active and passive camming devices of any kind, webbing, slings, crampons, ice screws, ice axes, ice tools, pulleys, ascenders, rescue equipment, nut tools.
All bikini sets and bikini bottoms, competition swim suits, swim trunks, and underwear. Examples of underwear include: boxers, briefs, boxer-briefs and all Women's underwear.
Helmets that show any kind of use and are not in their original packaging. Types of helmets include but are not limited to snowboard/ski helmets, skateboard helmets, paddling helmets, cycling helmets and climbing helmets.

Items that are returned dirty/damaged/soiled, i.e. animal hair, will be charged a 10% restocking fee. Bikes returned that have been assembled will be assessed a 10-20% restocking fee.

Easy Returns - We've done our best to make Returns Easy for you to send back to us. 

1. When returning an item or exchanging please make sure to include a copy of your invoice and a quick note explaining the situation at hand as this helps us process your request faster. If you're exchanging, the quickest way to receive the new item will be to buy the replacement you'd like right away.  Then post the other item/s back to us with a note explaining that you’re simply returning for a refund because you've already purchased the replacement.

2. Pack and seal your return securely (in the original package if possible). Packages must be returned prepaid; we cannot accept C.O.D. deliveries. Be sure to email us the tracking number for the return package.

3. Amazon handles all aspects of processing refunds.  Please contact their customer service department for any refund related issues.  You can expect a 3-5 business day turnaround time for returns/exchanges to be processed once the item/s has been received.  Turnaround times will be longer during December and January.

I just sent back my return, why hasn't it been credited to my account yet? 

You can expect a 3-5 business day turnaround time for returns/exchanges to be processed once the item/s has been received.  Turnaround times will be longer during December and January.  As soon as your package is checked in, we’ll send a message via Amazon’s message system.

Do you pay for my return shipping? 

Return shipping is the customers’ responsibility. There are no restocking fees as long as the returned item is received within 30 days, unused, with everything that arrived with the item.  You will get a refund for the price you paid for the product(s) being returned. Refunds do not include shipping costs. However, if an item is defective, or we sent you the wrong product by mistake, we will most certainly provide you with a pre-paid shipping label. Please contact us via Amazon’s message system for further help.

What if I received the wrong item or the picture does not match what I received? 

If we send you a different item other than what was on your order, please contact us immediately via Amazon’s message system.  We will cover the return shipping and get you the correct product right away.

Shipping Policies

Free shipping

FREE SHIPPING is available on all purchases within the Contiguous U.S. going to a physical address. 

FREE shipping orders are primarily shipped via UPS Ground but some smaller items may ship via USPS.  All orders are processed quickly in our warehouse; however paid shipping orders are processed ahead of FREE Shipping orders.   UPS Ground operates Monday-Friday.

Continental U.S. 

UPS Ground is our default shipping service, with the exception of some smaller items going USPS.  We reserve the right to use either company. 

We offer two expedited shipping options on Amazon: 

  • UPS 2nd Day Air 
  • UPS 3 Day Select 
Amazon refers to the UPS 3 Day Select service as "Expedited" and will present a delivery date range during checkout.  Packages sent with this method will arrive 3 business days after shipment


Orders to Po Boxes and FPO/APO addresses are sent via USPS and do not ship for free.

Alaska/Hawaii

Orders can be shipped via 2nd Day Air or USPS Priority Mail. 

U.S. Protectorates

Shipping to U.S. Protectorates is done via USPS Priority Mail.

Shipping Policies

Once an order is placed we cannot change the shipping address (Per Amazon Policy).  If we need to have the package returned to sender you will be refunded your order less shipping fees paid.  For example: bad, incomplete, old addresses.  UPS attempted 3 deliveries and held package for pick up with no response from recipient.     

Orders with shipping addresses that contain apartment, suite, floor, unit numbers or have a value over $400 may be shipped with an indirect signature requirement for fraud protection reasons.   

Orders that are refused by recipient will be returned and refunded less shipping charges incurred (both ways).

Bike Shipments

Certain comfort, cruiser, fitness and fat bikes are not able to ship via USPS due to the size of the box.  In instances where PO Boxes, APO/FPO or any other address requiring shipment via USPS is entered the order will be cancelled/refunded.  You will be contacted via Amazon's message system and asked to place a new order with an address in which we can ship via UPS.  We apologize for any hassle and inconvenience.

As as industry standard, some bikes might have minor cosmetic blemishes due to the nature of shipping. 

Snowboard Orders:

In order to save money, materials and resources snowboard manufacturers alternate base colors for all die cut bases.  We cannot take base color requests as we don't know what colors and quantities of each we'll receive from the manufacturer.

How long will delivery take? 

Altrec ships all items within two days of receiving an order (M-F).  Most items are shipped the next business day after we receive the order from Amazon.  Depending on your location within the U.S., your order will take anywhere from 1 to 7 business days to arrive. 

Damaged Shipments

If you receive a product that was damaged in shipping, please hold onto all packaging and contact us as soon as possible. We will then contact the shipping company to start a damaged package claim and get a new item shipped out.

Canadian Orders

We ship Canadian orders via UPS Worldwide Expedited. If you're only ordering a smaller item we may change the shipping method to USPS Priority Mail International. We reserve the right to use either company. See International orders below for more info on international orders being subject to duties and taxes. 

Shipping times will vary, due to possible customs delays, but on average take 5-10 business days.

International Orders

IMPORTANT: International shipments are subject to Duties, Taxes, Broker Fees, and Customs Fees in your country. These EXTRA fees are YOUR responsibility and must be paid upon receipt of the shipment. The rules for these fees vary by country, and your local government determines the duty and customs charges. Customs procedures may delay shipments. Please inquire with your local customs office. These fees may include import duties, Value Added Taxes (VAT), and customs clearance fees. These costs are entirely the responsibility of the purchaser. The shipping charge by Altrec does not include any of these fees. 

We ship international orders via UPS Worldwide Expedited. If you're only ordering a smaller item we may change the shipping method to USPS Priority Mail International. We reserve the right to use either company. 

Shipping times will vary on the country we’re shipping to, time of year and possible customs delays.

Due to dealer agreements not all brands can ship internationally.

International Manufacturer's Warranty Claims: 

Most items sold at Altrec come with a one year manufacturer's warranty. In these situations the customer is responsible for sending the product back to Altrec. If the warranty claim is approved we'll issue an in-store credit for the price paid for the item. Return shipping costs are the buyer’s responsibility for all warranty claims but if the manufacturer honors the claim and a replacement is available, we’ll send the replacement back to you for no additional charge.

Tax Information

Sales tax is not separately calculated and collected in connection with items ordered from Altrec through the Amazon.com Site unless explicitly indicated as such in the ordering process. Items ordered from Altrec may be subject to tax in certain states, based on the state to which the order is shipped. If an item is subject to sales tax, in accordance with state tax laws, the tax is generally calculated on the total selling price of each individual item, including shipping and handling charges, gift-wrap charges and other service charges, less any applicable discounts. What is the status of my order?

You can quickly and easily track the status of your order by logging in to your Amazon Account. 

Do the items you sell come with a warranty?

Most products sold by Altrec have a manufacturer's warranty. Please send us a message via Amazon with any issues so we can assist you in the manufacturer's warranty process. Altrec has no final say in the outcome of a warranty claim. The decision squarely rests in the manufacturers hands; we're here to help facilitate the process. Please be prepared to email some photos of the damaged item, if possible. This will help us determine if the warranty claim has a good chance of being accepted. Be aware that customers are responsible for shipping warrantied items to us or the manufacturer. Altrec will cover the shipping of the product back to you if the manufacturer accepts the warranty claim.  Accepted warranty claims will be eligible for either an exchange or store credit, no refunds.

Product Questions:

How do I know what size to order?

Many of the products we sell will have sizing charts from the manufacturer to aid you in your selection.  If when clicking the size chart button on Amazon, you get this message: “We do not have specific size information for this item, but please see our general size chart below for reference.”  Send us a quick email and we’ll be happy to assist in locating the correct sizing information from the manufacturer. Please note sizing charts are general and do not guarantee that an item will fit.
