After paying his dues, he was transferred back to Charlotte, NC as district manager of International Shoe Company.

In 1973 Gary and a few partners had the opportunity to buy into a three-store lease operation. The department store, called Bon Marche, was headquartered in Asheville, NC. After having success with those stores, Gary decided to venture out on his own.

The first Houser Shoes opened in Gastonia, NC in 1976.  In 2000, Gary and his daughter, Beth, opened GB Shoe Warehouse - one of the Southeast's largest shoe stores. This 35,000 square foot concept store offers brand name shoes at prices up to 75 percent off regular department store prices. GB has a huge selection of Women’s Shoes, Men’s Shoes, and Children’s Shoes, all under one roof.  Around the same time, Houser Shoes ventured into selling shoes online with the development of an online store. In 2004, was launched with the goal of being a leading seller of shoes online. The website has continued to grow, expanding the product base and adding new features. Despite the lack of face to face interaction when buying shoes online, Gary Houser has always kept the same philosophy in mind – that customers are the most important people in any business.

Currently, there are approximately 150 people employed with Houser Shoes. Houser Shoes, GB Shoe Warehouse, and GB Shoes form a ten-store operation that is one of the Southeast's largest independent retailers. The company is still owned and operated by Gary Houser. We are a small company that believes in making our people feel special. We realize that our staff is the backbone of our existence, and that our customers have faces and names, not just numbers.

*Returns are normally accepted up to 30 Days after Delivery. We do make exceptions during the Holidays and when items are purchased as gifts.

*Houser Shoes is not responsible for any Return Shipping Costs outside of the Contiguous Continental United States. We do not ship outside of the Contiguous Continental United States therefore compensation can not be provided. 

*While returns may be shipped back by the most convenient method, is not responsible for lost return packages that are uninsured and untraceable.

All items must be returned in a " New or Like New" condition. Returns received in "worn" or non resalable condition are subject to a 20% - 50% restocking fee. Shoes that we are not able to resell will be returned to the Buyer and No Refund will be given.

How do I Return an Order?

Make sure that you return the items and the original box (if items were boxed) in "new" condition and that you do not apply any tape to the SHOE BOX when preparing the Return shipment back to HouserShoes.

A 20% restocking fee will be deducted from any return where the manufacturer's retail box has been damaged.

Ensure that you put either the original or a copy of the invoice/packing sheet that came with your package inside the return. Failure to do so could cause a delay in processing your return. Once received your refund will occur in 3-5 business days.

Houser Shoes Shipping Rates

Houser Shoes always ships the business day following the receipt of an order. Our rates will vary depending upon the number of  items in your order and the urgency you specify for delivery. Standard FedEx Ground is estimated to be 1 to 5 business days (M-F) (Holidays excluded) from the East Coast to the West Coast. Times may vary due to weather and seasonal increases in shipments. If your order is $49.88 or more we will ship FREE FedEx Ground as long as you choose Ground Shipping at checkout.

Express Shipping:
 When you choose this shipping method, FedEx guarantees " delivery on the 3rd business day after the order is picked up by FedEx." If you are shipping to NC, SC, TN, KY or GA your shipment may get there faster and cheaper by selecting Ground.

When your order is $49.88 or more you will automatically get Free Ground Shipping. It is not necessary to select any method at checkout.

Shipping Policies

We ship anywhere in the Continental United States. Our goal is to ship all orders the next business day after receipt (special orders and orders which require special attention may take longer). An order received on any business day ships out the next business day (Mon - Fri). Orders received on Friday will not ship out until Monday. We reserve the right to modify these rules without notification.

  • Houser Shoes currently only ships orders to locations within the Continental United States.
  • When shipping to Forwarding Company’s, it is the policy of FedEx that the package be signed for upon delivery. In these cases Houser Shoes will not liable for any loss or damages to goods ordered.
  • Houser Shoes currently only accepts payment from accounts based in the United States.
  • Weekend and Holiday deliveries are not available.
  • Houser Shoes is not responsible for delayed delivery due to inclement weather.
  • Orders with billing address errors may be delayed until the correct information is obtained.
  • Houser Shoes is not responsible for shipments that are lost or damaged in Transit by FedEx. As a courtesy Houser Shoes will, on the behalf of the customer, file a Trace and or Claim for the lost, damaged or disputed merchandise but are ultimately not responsible for any monetary loss that occurs.

    Do you sell used/second-hand/knock-off shoes?

  • We only sell new, first quality merchandise purchased directly from the manufacturers.

    I know my European size, what US size do I wear?

  • Often, manufacturers have different size conversions for EU to US shoe sizes.  The size provided in the drop drop down list for you to select provided both versions.  Since your foot is three-dimensional, any two-dimensional measurement can only approximate your true shoe size.  Please also keep in mind that manufacturers sizing may vary.

    If I wear a certain size in women's, what size do I wear in men's/kids'?

  • Generally, women's sizes are marked 1.5 to 2 sizes larger than men's and kids' sizes.  For example, if you wear a women's size 9, you should be able to fit into a men's size 7 or 7.5. 

    When will my shoes arrive?

  • Houser Shoes believes getting your items to you quickly is important.  We make every effort to process your order within 24 business hours.  Online orders will arrive within 3-5 business days to most locations with standard ground shipping unless you specify and pay for special shipping services.

    Do you ship to PO/APO boxes?

  • Unfortunately, we cannot ship to PO or APO boxes at this time. All of our merchandise is shipped through FedEx services.

    Do you ship outside the US?

  • Unfortunately, we cannot ship outside the US at this time.
