Mike was able to get some of the best equipment from his friends back home. It seemed only natural to start a small business to share the goods with new friends he met in the states. They began using their garage in Clewiston, Florida in 1999 to store all of the merchandise and then graduated to a small shop in 2002. Two years later, they moved to Palm Beach County and got a bigger shop off of US 1.
In 2006, they upgraded again to a larger space across the street (where Florida Freedivers is still located) with three bays. Then in 2010 they rented another open bay next door to store all of the stock. In 2011 they expanded the retail space into the third bay, and in 2012 they wanted to pass the shop to see it continue to grow even more. In June of 2012, Mike and Cherryl sold the shop to Jonathan and Kelsey Dickinson. Since then, half of the fourth bay has been converted to a classroom to host FII Freediving Courses.
As we continue to grow we hope to continue to impress and give outstanding service to every customer we serve. We love to brainstorm about improving the shop, so if you have any ideas we'd be eager to hear them!
If you want to stay updated on all of our latest adventures (ie: Bahamas, Paint Balling, etc.) you can make sure to like us on Facebook. We'd love to see and get tagged (@flfreedivers) in your fish pictures and get to know you a little bit better too!
Meet the Owners:
My husband, Jonathan, and I (Kelsey) started dating when we were 14 years old and finally got married in February, 2011.
Right out of high school in 2006, Jonathan signed up to be a rigger for the Air Force and in 2008 he and and his dad (John) bought Scuba Works, in Jupiter, Florida.
In 2009, Jonathan met Martin Stepanek, a 13 time world record holder and founder of FII, at The Blue Wild Spearfishing Symposium. Later that year, Scuba Works was hosting an Intro to Freediving Seminar that featured him. Martin played a big role in teaching Jonathan the Level 2 Freediving Course, and Level 1 Freediving Course (yes, he did it backwards), and then certifying his as a Level 1 Instructor. Jonathan loves teaching, which works great with his outgoing personality. He and Errol Putigna are the dynamic duo and often teach classes together. Kris Landers is one of our newest instructors and working his way up the ladder.
Since Jonathan is the bold, leader in the relationship, I tend to be the quieter, naturally funny one (at least I think so). It's a good thing I'm the one typing this. I've always grown up on boats, so it was an easy transition into being a part of Jonathan's family. I got certified to scuba dive when I was in college, and have loved diving ever since. My favorite sea creature is the arrow crab. I remember him being the first thing that blew my mind when I was scuba diving. I graduated from Palm Beach Atlantic University with degrees in Cross-Cultural Studies and Graphic Design. I worked at Apple and started my own design company before buying the shop.
These last two years have been a whirlwind of awesome, and we are excited with the team and family that is forming.
We are confident in saying that we have the best customers on the planet, and we are proud to be able to call many of them our friends.
Jonathan & Kelsey Dickinson
I am so happy with these fins. They are a night and day difference. Alot of power for the amount of effort, very efficient.

Sometimes they call me Speedy Gonzalez. Orders placed before 1pm (EST) will be shipped out the same day by our friends at UPS or FedEx, most likely. USPS is our friend too when we're shipping to APO/FPO addresses or to Hawaii.
Shipping insurance is included in the shipping cost for up to $100. If you would like us to purchase additional insurance on your package, please let us know before we ship the package as we would be happy to do this for you. It may incur an additional cost depending on package size, weight, and destination.
Packages with a value of over $100 may require an adult signature upon delivery of a package. If your package is going to be delivered on a day or time that you are not home and the contents are valued over $100 you may leave a note on your door for the carrier. It should have directions on where to leave the package, your name, your signature and the date. If you would like to ensure that your package requires an adult signature or the signature of the person listed on the shipping label, please notify us before shipping the package and we would be happy to assist in making sure it gets shipped the way you would like.
Privacy and Security
Florida Freedivers values the privacy of your personal data.
We are located in Florida, which means we only have to charge sales tax when shipping to Florida. All other states in the US will not be charged sales tax. APO/FPO addresses should also not be charged sales tax. Sales tax for Florida addresses does not apply to the shipping amount, only to the sub-total for the items being purchased. The current Florida sales tax will be applied to orders shipping within the state of Florida.
How quickly do you get your orders shipped out?
We strive to ship our orders same day, if they are placed by 1:00pm EST. All orders are shipped same day or next day at the latest. Orders shipping FedEx Ground to Florida should arrive within two business days.
Do you ship out on the weekends?
No, our carriers do not ship out on the weekends unless shipping express, which is a service we do not offer yet.
How do I know you won't mess up my order?
We strive to make sure every order is completely correct, which is why we have implemented a "QC" (Quality Control) system where one person packs the order and before closing the box another person double checks everything. We know your orders are highly anticipated, so we want to make sure to deliver greatness!
How do you ship pole spears?
We take every precaution we can to ensure poles are not damaged during shipping. We ship them in stiff card board tubes, apply rubber trip protection to the tips and do a "Shake Test" to make sure the items inside should not be jostled during shipping. We also apply neon orange "FRAGILE" stickers to the outside of the package. As you know, some times carriers can let the package slip, so we just do the best we can on our end to try to make sure your package gets to you safe and sound.
