Troubleshooting T-Power Adapters

Learn how to troubleshoot one or more of the following adapter symptoms:

  • Your power adapter won't charge the computer.
  • The LED on the adapter connector doesn't light up when attached.
  • The adapter only charges the computer intermittently.
  • The adapter's insulation separates from the end of the connector tip.
  • You see a spark.
  • Your connector on the adapter or computer has a physical issue with a pin.

*If You See A Spark

At times you may see a spark when the power adapter is plugged into a wall socket. In most occurrences of sparking are normal when plugging any appliance into a live outlet. If there is any discoloration or damage, if the spark is not coming from the blades of the plug, or if you have other concerns, please feel free to contact us.

Make Sure the Adapter You Are Using Is WorkingTo check that the outlet you're using is still working, please try another device in the socket, such as a clock radio, table lamp, or television.
Check If Your Adapter Is the Proper Wattage
  1. This information should be located somewhere on the plastic casing of your adapter e.g. 65W, 120W.
  2. When selecting the correct wattage adapter, you can use a slightly higher wattage adapter, but using an adapter with lower wattage may cause issues.
  3. Please do not use higher amperage adapers with PSU battery backs ups. If you have any questions about this, please feel free to contact us.
Check for Line Noise
  1. Unplug your adapter from the wall outlet, let it stand for 60 seconds, then return the plug to the wall socket.
  2. Common sources of line noise are: Refrigerators, Mini Fridges, and Lights with Ballasts on the same electrical circuit.
  3. If the power adapter begins to work after this minute-long rest you very likely have line noise issues from this power source. This issue may come from your adapter’s built in protections systems. You should try to reset your adapter like this every once in a while to diminish excess charge.
If the above steps work for you on a tested “good outlet” your adapter doesn’t need to be replaced.
Use Your Adapter in a Well Ventilated Area
  1. During normal use the adapter will become warm or even hot to the touch. This is caused by normal operating conditions of the adapter radiating excess heat from the casing.
  2. Be sure to always put your adapter in a well ventilated area, and avoid: cushions, thick carpet, blankets, and pillows. If the adapter is placed in these areas, it may shut itself off to prevent overheating.
  3. If the adapter shuts down from overheating it may be to hot to touch for a short while, please avoid touching until it has cooled.
If the above steps work for you on a tested “good outlet” your adapter doesn’t need to be replaced.
Check for Bent PlugsIf the Power adapter does not charge your device and the LED does not light up, please see check for bent plugs, or strain on the cable.
  1. Testing Your 3-Prong Cord:
    1. Check that your plug is free from dust and foreign objects
    3. Check your cord periodically to make sure that it is in good working order.
    4. Please refer to the images below as to how these cords should look:
  2. If you notice any of the below examples, please discontinue use of your adapter:
    1. The blades on your cable are bent
    3. The blades wobble in their casing (or seem loose).
    5. The adapter only powers intermittently
    7. There is a tear or visible wear in the insulating jacket of your adapter
    9. You hear a loud popping sound coming from the adapter housing or 3-prong cable.
Check for Strains on the Cable
  1. Strain on the cable can be caused in many ways, most cases are from the output end of the cable, coming from your adapter to the device, gets stretched to the point that the internal cable experiences a disconnect.
  2. Under normal wear and tear the cable may slightly change color toward the end or become deformed at the point were the cable meets the adapter.
  3. Another indication for strain is the adapter charging off and on, or the led light working and going out over and over again. You usually verify this condition by wiggling the adapter near where it plugs into your device.
  4. Do not use an adapter that show signs of strain.
Check and Clean Debris from the Barrel Tip of Your Adapter
  1. Inspect the ends of your adapter before use to prevent debris from plugging up your port or outlet.
  2. To clean the pin or port: disconnect your adapter from the device and wall outlet. Remove dust and foreign objects with a soft bristle toothbrush or a cotton swab. Be careful not to leave cotton fibers in your adapter as this can damage the adapter.
  3. If the adapter shuts down from overheating it may be to hot to touch for a short while, please avoid touching until it has cooled.
Check That Your Software Is up to DateIn some cases (computing devices, GPS) your software may be out of date, please be sure to check with your manufacturer to make sure you are using the latest version of the software or firmware.

After following these steps, check again to see if your adapter is working with your device, and if the LED light is indicating power. If not, please refer to the below section for our warranty information.

T-Power's warranty obligations are limited to the terms set forth below: T-Power ("T-Power") warrants this hardware product against defects in materials and workmanship for a period of ONE (1) YEAR from the date of original retail purchase. If a defect exists, at its option T-Power will (1) repair the product at no charge, using new or refurbished replacement parts, (2) exchange the product with a product that is new or which has been manufactured from new or serviceable used parts and is at least functionally equivalent to the original product, or (3) refund the purchase price of the product. A replacement product/part assumes the remaining warranty of the original product or ninety (90) days from the date of replacement or repair, whichever provides longer coverage for you. When a product or part is exchanged, any replacement item becomes your property and the replaced item becomes T-Power's property. When a refund is given, your product becomes T-Power's property.

Limitations of Liability

If the product fails during normal and proper use within the warranty period, T-Power will, at its discretion, repair or replace the defective parts within the product, or the product itself, with items that are functionally equivalent to that as originally supplied, or better, during the warranty period defined for the model, using new or refurbished parts or units. If the product is under warranty, the ownership of the replaced defective parts will automatically be transferred to T-Power. All components repaired or replaced by T-Power will be under warranty for the remaining period of your warranty.



Exclusions from this Limited Warranty Service

T-POWER does not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation of this product. Any technical or other support provided for the product under warranty, such as assistance via telephone with “how-to” questions and those regarding product setup and information will be provided without warranties of any kind. The warranty only covers failures or malfunctions that occur during the warranty period and under normal use conditions as well as any material or workmanship defect.

The warranty will not apply to or be valid under conditions including but not limited to the following:

a) The serial number of the T-POWER product, components or accessories has been altered, cancelled, removed, or otherwise not valid as identified by T-POWER;
b) The product has been tampered with, repaired and/or modified by non-authorized personnel;
c) The product warranty seals have been broken or altered;
d) There is damage caused by natural disaster, intentional or unintentional misuse, abuse, neglect, acts of war, improper maintenance, or use under abnormal conditions;
e) There is damage caused by accidental drops, spills, fire, or power surges.
f) There is damage from improper installation, improper connection, or use of parts and/or components not manufactured or sold by T-POWER;
g) There is damage from use outside of the operation or storage parameters or environment detailed in the User's Manual or reasonably acceptable for similar product usage models deemed industry standard best practices;
h) There is damage to or loss of any program, data or removable storage media, or if there are costs from recovering any program or data;
