Shutting down and losing temp, less then 1 year old.
on July 30, 2014
Yup...same issue here as the other reviewers had, except mine started shutting down randomly after 8 months. I too thought it was a fluke, but now I am having to turn it off and on again every day to get the compressor to start up again and keep things frozen. Called GE, and the only GE service rep is 1 hr away, and wouldn't come out to check it out, and so GE is issuing us a rebate since it is under the 1 yr warranty. I have to go buy the new freezer, then send the receipt with their rebate voucher back to GE, and then they send me back 239.00, the going retail price( which is significantly less then the going price here right now). This would be fine, if I could find the thing in stock anywhere for that price! We originally bought it from Sam's club for $199.00, but it is not available right now. We are 1 1/2 from any of the big box stores, and so nobody will deliver it to us, and they are not carrying it in store for pick up either. Ugh. What a hassle. I'm just hoping to get this thing replaced before I lose the rest of my local grass fed beef that I have in there(we bought 1/2 cow back in Nov 2013, which is why we bought the freezer)! Of course, once I do have the thing replaced, I am going to be constantly worried that the same thing will happen again. If I had a choice I would replace it with a different brand, but then I won't get the rebate, so I will give it a try and hope that this one is better. Time will tell.....and I will update!
