I am by no means an expert on pearls. Before buying these pearls I did some research. This is what I found. These are cultured freshwater pearls. This means they are not naturally occurring. A pearl farmer put an irritant in a mollusk and the mollusk created a pearl. A naturally occurring pearl is made when an irritant naturally finds its way into the mollusk. Cultured pearls are real pearls. They not artificial. A cultured pearl is made of the same ingredients found in a natural pearl. Cultured pearls have a more uniform shape. Pearls cultured in saltwater have a higher shine and luster. They are more expensive than pearls cultured in freshwater. One freshwater mollusk can produce from 20-50 pearls at a time. This means that they are not always round. A saltwater mollusk only grows one pearl at a time. The size of the pearl is determined by the size of the irritant the farmer inserts into the mollusk and how long it grows. I found conflicting information about international standards on pearl grading. Some websites say it is not consistent, some disagree. I don't know. It seems this is how they are graded: Size: This is self-explanatory Shape: the rounder the pearl, the more it is worth. *Luster: This is the shine the way light is reflected *Surface Perfection: You don't want spots, areas on the surface that aren't smooth, or dull spots. There should be no cracks or scratches. * The luster and surface perfection are the two most important factors when they are graded. The next item of research involved how the necklace was strung. Older necklaces were strung with silk. Newer necklaces are strung with nylon or sometimes polyester as this is stronger than silk, but looks similiar. There should be a knot between the pearls. This puts space between the pearls, allowing more of the pearl to be exposed. If the strand breaks only one pearl will fall off. The whole strand will need to be restrung if this happens. The clasp on this necklace has 5 holes in it. The two outside holes are the only ones that can be used to close the necklace. I use the ouside one as it seems easier to work with. The clasp has a piece on it that is slightly wider, and slightly curved, making it more difficult for the necklace to become accidently unclasped. This may also make it more difficult to clasp the necklace. The quality of the box the pearls are stored in was somewhat disappointing. It seems it has the same or a similiar box that most companies online use for freshwater pearls. I would rather find the box lacking in quality than the pearls. These are the criteria I found from my research to find and buy a pearl necklace. I said before I did not know much about pearls and wanted to make an infomed decision. I got what I was looking for when I purchased this necklace.
I ordered The 22in pearl necklace through unique pearl, and I was very happy with the confirmation follow-up time.when I received the necklace,My Wife found that the clasp was small and tricky to manipulate. I notified the seller about The problem, and He took care of it right away.I sent the necklace back to Him,and within a few days, He returned to Me the necklace with a larger clasp. By far the best Jewelry buying expieriance ever. thank You Unique pearl. Tom D.
I purchased these for my wife for Christmas and she is a lover of pearls...I was nervous doing this online with just some photos to review but the comments left made me feel the risk was worth it...and was it ever!! The wife just sat there staring at the pearls when she opened them stating they were the best looking pearls she had not only owned...but had ever seen (she works in jewelry)...she went on about how her store only carries AA quality...and these were exceptional! The packaging was excellent and came with certificates of grade and quality! The stringing of these pearls was also exceptional. Just an amazing set of pearls from a company that clearly focuses on quality!
The necklace arrived as promised and seems a good value for the money. My only complaint would be the packaging the necklace arrived in. The lack of presentation took away from the over all appearance and a lack of some type of molding or brace to hold the necklace in place druing shipping, cheapened the look.
The pearls were beautiful and well matched. Definitely AAA quality, and they come in a nice jewelry box unlike some of the other necklaces on amazon. Shipping was fast and the product was as described. As some others have mentioned the clasp is a little small, but I don't have any trouble with it once you try it once or twice.
These pearls are very nice. They definitely fit the AAA rating classification. Nice, perfectly round and beautiful color. Based on other people's feedback I was concerned that the clasp would be too small but it is fine. I purchased as a gift for my daughter and hope she likes them as much as I do. The shipping was fast and the packaging is nice.
The pearl necklace arrived quickly in a very nice presentation box. The pearls are lusturous and uniform. The gold clasp is pretty and seems quite sturdy. The information included about the care of pearls was very helpful. I would definitely order them again if I needed another graduation gift.
Beautiful pearls. Bought as anniversary gift, my wife really loves them. I am happy with the look and quality. As others have said the clasp is a bit small, but my wife has several others with a similar clasp so no problems for her. We will most likely get a different clasp if they ever need restringing.
