Outstanding whiskey glasses!
on October 19, 2015
I broke my previous set of Riedel scotch glasses and decided to go with Glencairn this time. What a difference! The Glencairn glasses are made of slightly more delicate glass, that is their stem towards the top is slightly thinner than Riedel's, and this makes them look a lot more elegant. The set looks great just sitting in my cabinet! The glasses themselves are just perfect for whiskey. The top is narrow, meant to allow you to nose the whiskey properly before sipping. It concentrates all the complex elements of the whiskey allowing you to get a good sense of what's in store.
These glasses are really designed for the proper way to drink whiskey. They give a great nosing experience (if you can call it that), and meant for whiskey to be had neat. If you are in the habit of using ice cubes with your whiskey (why oh why?!), you will need thinner ice cubes to fit into the narrow tops. If you use a dropper, that will be perfect.
If you are deciding between Glencairn's set of 4 or 6 glasses, this set of 6 at $31 will be a better choice compared to the set of 4 for $25. For an additional $6, you get 2 more glasses which is a good deal since it is hard to find individual pieces from this set.
