Best Minimalist shoe I could find
on December 28, 2013
For the price, these are excellent minimalist running shoes. If your running style is somewhere between barefoot style and midfoot striking, then these shoes will gratify both urges. They feel light and free, but also offer just enough cushion underfoot to let me "rest" my calves during long runs by switching to midfoot striking for a while and then getting back up on my toes and balls of the feet.
My friends will marvel at their astonishing light weight. In spite of this they are study and relatively hardy for a running shoe, as I have come to expect from ALL of my asics. They look great and are integral long after they are "run out." I have more pairs of run-out asics for lawn mowing, workshop shoes and spare sin my car trunk than I care to have, they just last. I didn't find that I needed to replace them much sooner than a conventional running shoe, despite the lightweight and thinness of the sole.
One a side note, in hot weather, these shoes are especially amazing! They allow moisture and heat to escape in ALL directions, even through vents in the sole, which is wonderful in North Carolina in the summer. Every upside has a downside however. Be aware they are even a little chillier than other normal running shoes in the winter when running and that the sole vents let in EVERY DROP of water you run across, even moist pavement without obvious standing water. I have come to expect this and it doesn't bother me that my socks are wet under my toes when I finish a run the same way I don't care my shorts and shirt are soaked in sweat after a run. Its part of the package.
Overall, I love these and have a few pairs stockpiled since they seem to be getting rarer.
