For the price, these are excellent minimalist running shoes. If your running style is somewhere between barefoot style and midfoot striking, then these shoes will gratify both urges. They feel light and free, but also offer just enough cushion underfoot to let me "rest" my calves during long runs by switching to midfoot striking for a while and then getting back up on my toes and balls of the feet.

My friends will marvel at their astonishing light weight. In spite of this they are study and relatively hardy for a running shoe, as I have come to expect from ALL of my asics. They look great and are integral long after they are "run out." I have more pairs of run-out asics for lawn mowing, workshop shoes and spare sin my car trunk than I care to have, they just last. I didn't find that I needed to replace them much sooner than a conventional running shoe, despite the lightweight and thinness of the sole.

One a side note, in hot weather, these shoes are especially amazing! They allow moisture and heat to escape in ALL directions, even through vents in the sole, which is wonderful in North Carolina in the summer. Every upside has a downside however. Be aware they are even a little chillier than other normal running shoes in the winter when running and that the sole vents let in EVERY DROP of water you run across, even moist pavement without obvious standing water. I have come to expect this and it doesn't bother me that my socks are wet under my toes when I finish a run the same way I don't care my shorts and shirt are soaked in sweat after a run. Its part of the package.

Overall, I love these and have a few pairs stockpiled since they seem to be getting rarer.

These shoes are great! The orange is nice and bright so if you like neon orange, you will love these shoes! My only complaint was that the rubber sole on the bottom started to come off after a couple weeks of use. I just put a little super glue on them and they haven't come apart since! (I've had these shoes for 5 months.) I really like these shoes but they fit a little tight for my liking. I wear a size 14 shoe and these size 14s seem to actually be a size 13. Not a big deal to me but if you don't like your shoes a little tight, then I would suggest maybe ordering a size bigger than what you normally get. With all this considered, I still really like these shoes and would definitely recommend them to a friend!

With a 6mm drop, these could be called transitional flats. I normally wear an ASICS size 9, but wear a 9.5 in this model. These are light, well-cushioned, fit me perfectly, and have an exceptionally roomy toe box. They've been discontinued for almost a year but show up here and on online retailers from time-to-time. This shoe has relatively "normal" colors compared to the mismatched neon crap that's out there right now.

I just put a couple of miles on these shoes at the gym and I did not find the shoes to be narrow. The shoes fit similar to the my Asics Enduro 7 which is a trail runner. The Hyper Speed 5 is a very light weight shoe compared to other asics which makes the shoe a good choice for endurance running or triathlons. I find that since the shoe is a neutral shoe that my foot seems to hit the ground more evenly compared to other running shoes that I've had in the past. Anyway, I find the shoe to be lightweight and very breathable. Asics does have a shoe fit comparison guide on their website which I found to be helpful and accurate.. Happy Running!

How can you go wrong with this shoe?

Disclaimer
1) you will not run like Ryan hall

p.s. those holes let more water in than they do out, if you walk across you wet lawn you will have wet feet. However, if it's 90 degrees and humid outside, you will have dry feet :)

Great shoes, very lightweight and durable. They look amazing (not at all bias since my school colors are Orange and black :p ) Great for road and easy trail running, both for tempos and races. I've run up to half marathons in them no sweat !

Pros: Nice bright orange color and very light. Reasonably priced.
Cons: it runs narrow.
My feet aren't even wide - needed a half size bigger
for a comfortable fit.

Light weight but plenty of support.. Seems like a high value shoe if they hold up. Time will tell but so far, so good.
