These were my first ASICS. I decided to try them out after New Balance altered their lineup and, I felt, lowered their quality significantly.

The shoes were tight initially. Others have written that ASICS run somewhat smaller than other brands, and that fits my experience, but within a few days I'd broken the shoes in and they'd expanded enough to feel comfortable, light, with moderate support and flexibility.

One source of irritation is the shoe inserts. In violation of reasonable expectation, they don't actually fit the shoes they arrived in; and within a few hours of use, they had slid backward underneath my feet so that a few inches were unsupported, including the entirety of my toes. This happens consistently, and gluing them in their proper places is an unpalatable option since I generally replace the inserts a few times before replacing my shoes. My job puts heavy strain on my feet and footwear, so perhaps this would not be a problem for others who don the Gel-Contend shoes, but it prevents me from liking them.

This was neither the best nor the worst shoe I've ever worn. I might wear ASICS again in future, but I'll try other brands first.

I'm a budget conscious 300+ lbs middle aged fat guy trying to do the exercise thing. I basically just wore these during workouts/running.

I wear 12 4Es, and these shoes felt a little bit snug width-wise, but acually, they got better after I wore them a while. Length-wise, they were spot on. Maybe the strings were just too tight to begin with.

The shoes look decent and are fairly comfortable to run in, but I use those Pinnacle insoles with them because of my pronation issues.

I'm only running maybe 10-12 miles a week, and then doing indoor cardio stuff the other time, so I haven't been super hard on these shoes.

One issue is you have to be careful not to walk down the heels. I have a tendency to do that when I get lazy putting on my shoes, and the heel area of a previous pair of these wore out pretty quickly.

What I really like, and why 4 out of 5 stars is for $35.97 that I paid for these, the price was great for this pair of shoes. I typically get new shoes every 6 months or so, and I'd buy these again.

Shoe is fine, but feels like a lower-end sneaker. I like the Asics running 4e fit and for years have buying other models from the store when they go on clearance just to wear as a casual shoe. These feel like the cheaper shoes they are - but still comfortable and serve my purposes.

I was worried about ordering online, but that proved to be wrong.

I have a hard time getting shoes, as my foot is wider. Usually it takes me a few days of stretching them to make it work. These fit as ordered, and were reasonably priced. I will definitely order online again, vice going to a store and being ignored, only to have the wrong size shoe.

here it is : got wide feed and needed 4e size ,i like it, fits perfectly( previously was running/walking in regular size shoes but it gave me a lot of strain/pain afterwards- especially after long walks/runs)
got gel cushioned bottom - good for condition where your arch is slightly high-high and you need some support for them + if you got
couple of extra pound help to "absorb " it(eg. as i mentioned before you can run/walk longer and get less stress/pain afterward in your feet)

shoes very breezy/ventilated , med-light weight, plus they are very durable and twill last for a long time
have descent look ) ...(

would buy em again ( again i choose performance and comfort over fancy look and show off )

Overall not a bad shoe but the 4E is more like a 2E or smaller. Side seams rub just before the ball of the foot. I'll be heading back to New Balance.

I bought these for a casual shoe, not for running or walking any distance. I bought a size 12.5 - 4E and they fit good, asic's extra wides are nice and roomy for my odd sized wide feet. I find these shoes to be kind of hard on my feet as I've worn them walking up to a mile, but I'm still breaking them in still. In comparison I previously bought Asics Nimbus 14's in the same size costing me $140 and they felt noticeably better. I've owned several pairs of Asics and the more expensive shoes are well worth the money if you are going to do any significant running or walking. I usually walk 3-10 miles several times a week and I wouldn't recommend this shoe for that, buy the more expensive Nimbus.

I am giving it two stars because the width is misleading. I don't know why the gel contend runs so narrow and all the other asics run true but you need to double the widith with these, Hubby takes a wide width E in nike, a 2E in all Asics and a 4E in the gel contend. Hope this helps. If you get the width right, the shoes are every bit as good as the rest of the line and last the same amount of time just cost less. go figure.

Just wanted a tad bit more width. It is of stretchable fabric, so is okay to keep. This was the second pair. I returned the first pair due to too narrow. I tried again, and decided this was better--though not a true 4E. Just close enough to just use. And then later ordered another pair. Same thing. Kept. So, overally am satisfied and since they have give, have kept. For the price, I cannot expect perfection. Now, I would not have spent above that. For the price, it can work.
