One year test result: Night light at best. These things are fake, they do not produce ultrasounds.
on November 19, 2017
I have had 4 of these for 13 months now, and the definitely do not work.
First of all, all 4 always have had their red light blinking.
Second, I saw bugs nearby throughout the year.
Third, I caught mice, same low amount as usual in the spring and the fall, and the trap near one of these is the one who caught most of those mice.
Fourth, I finally ended up doing the frequency test I wanted to do since day one... Guess what? Fake!
After my post, I decided to go a step further a open this device and, lo and behold, it does have more than just blinking LEDs. It actually has the necessary parts to make sounds, so why didn't the spectral analyzer detect anything?
So this is easy to open, and a piezoelectric disc is hot glued to the plastic cover. Once the disc is removed from the cover, the glue is removed from the disc, and the probe is brought 1 mm from the disc, I detected a very weak peak at 19 kHz. By definition, ultrasound are >20 kHz. Also a human can hear up to 20-25 kHz.
Not only is this not producing, ultrasounds, but the way it is assembled seems to severely impact the little (read useless) output.
