It does what it it's supposed to. It got rid of humming from my headphones line as well as a line in to my PC. I didn't need to use anything special to open the filter or clamp it securely shut. Did it all by hand. Thye click when you close them completely. They don't slide around when forced. They seem solid.

These Ferrite Core filters are not easy to initially open as the locking tabs are shipped locked. It takes a tiny screwdriver to unsnap one at a time and use a fingernail to hold it open while opening the second side. Once in place snap to close.

I was getting really bad static/buzzing noise coming from my PC speakers especially when using 3D applications. I realized my onboard audio was picking up interference from my video card hence why the static noise tripled when running anything graphics intensive. Adding these to my audio cable drastically reduced the noise.
It did not completely eliminate the noise (I have to really crank up the volume to still hear a slight buzz) but from 0-70% volume there is no audible buzzing. I usually listen at 50%.

I ended up getting good quality dedicated sound card which completely eliminated any type of noise interference.

A little background: I'm a ham radio operator who frequently runs 35-100W from my office. This sends enough stray RF into neaby computer cables, that without ferrite beads at both ends of the connections, my caps lock LED illuminates and various peripherals disconnect or malfunction while I'm transmitting. (My aluminum 27" iMac itself is very well-isolated.)

I ordered these ferrite beads because they're advertised as being sized for USB cables. I should've thought harder about their 3mm diameter. They fit nicely on mini and micro USB cables, which I have a few of, but unfortunately they're too small for my plain old USB cables. Time to pull out the calipers, take some measurements, and order larger chokes.

These particular beads are easy to both install and remove, as opposed to the type that's intended to be installed permanently. Tiny prongs hold the beads firmly against the cables where they're installed, and the beads snap closed securely. The snaps can be undone with a fingernail or jeweler's screwdriver, and if you're careful, they should provide a long life of reuses on different cables. That said, ferrite beads are cheap, and you should probably just leave them in place.
