Is this compatible with the dell inspiron 1400?

It looks like this adapter is a 65W unit, comparable with the Dell original PA-21. The Inspiron 1400 wants a 90W unit, comparable with the Dell PA-10. I haven't tried this with Dell adapters, but my experience Toshiba adapters suggest it may work for a time (assuming the plugs are the same) but the higher current draw of your 1400 would cause the power adapter to heat up. My daughter melted an insufficiently powerful Toshiba adapter.

Not sure. I searched for one compatible with the Inspiron 1501 and this popped up. Took a gamble and bought it since the price was so reasonable. Works great!
