I guess if you use this feeder 24/7, it does the job, but for someone who is in and out and wants to turn the unit off frequently, it's really not the perfect machine.
Also, when I received it, one of the flaps on the bottom which are spring activated didn't seem to want to move. I discovered it had some extra plastic from the manufacturing process and was sticking. Had to use a knife to trim it down to the correct size. Now it works fine.
I have had this feeder for about 4 months now. I just changed the rating from 3 stars to 4 stars. I have to say, it really is a reliable feeder. The batteries are still going strong, they are the original ones.Read more ›

Note that this video does not demonstrate the audio clip recording/playback while feeding. The manual says it plays back the sound clip three times at feeding time.
Very cheap construction all around, but it works!
UPDATE: So our feeder stopped working after about 6 months. The motor wasn't properly engaging the rotating feeding scoop, so I took it apart and found a few obvious screws that had gotten loose due to the vibrating motor. A few quick turns of a screwdriver and a few drops of superglue, and it was fixed. If your feeder stops working, I encourage you to take it apart and check for loose screws. The inside is very simple and easy enough to diagnose.
There were several other problems on top of those, however, which I was not expecting. If the unit is less than about a third full, the food doesn't fall correctly into the area that the motor scoops it from, and so the cat doesn't get fed at all, even though there is roughly two weeks' worth of food inside. To top that off, if the unit is TOO full, it seems to weigh down the motor, and won't dispense food either (instead producing the ERR message and forcing you to reprogram the whole thing . . . again). And honestly, I could work around those quirks. But now, after less than a year, the motor has given out completely (while I was on vacation, no less), and so the whole thing is useless, my poor cat is half-starved, and I'm once again shopping for automatic pet feeders...
Do yourself a favor and fork out the bucks for a better model.
I found this AF-100 electronic feeder at Amazon sold by TopSeller100 for the same price my daughter paid for the LeBistro. I ordered it for my cat to see if it would work any better than the LeBistro. My cat has been using for it a month now and it works perfectly. It is larger, heavier and more stable than the LeBistro. My 14 pound cat would not be able to tip it over. The barrel feeding mechanism closes off at the chute and it is not possible for the cat to dispense extra food. The lid has a positive locking latch that will not come off. Today I ordered another AF-100 feeder to give to my daughter for her cat. I know she will be pleased with it.
My cat is very skittish so I was somewhat worried that the loud vibration and motor noise would scare him off. It did startle him at first, but he got accustomed to it after a couple of feedings. He seems to like the recording of my voice that plays when it dispenses.
The programming of the unit is not intuitive, so you have to carefully read the instructions and follow them exactly. If you miss a step, you have to reset it and start over. Once you have it programmed you can forget about it until it is time to change the batteries which will cause a reset and require reprogramming.Read more ›

Bought 1, it failed 2 months later. Replaced batteries, simply beeped 10 times and didn't accept any input at all to programme it after that. Read morePublished 2 days ago by Njm
If you don't want it to jam use food that is small. I've owned 3 of them. The first 2 always jammed when I fed with larger size kibble. Read morePublished 4 days ago by Mark
Wonderful way to limit the cats food. This is amazing....Published 17 days ago by Janice Fosler-Addison
Work pretty good and not to hard to set up. Battery life is good as well. It can jam up but I do not see a way to stop that on any motorized feeder.Published 21 days ago by SSVW
I would NOT recommend this product. It is unreliable -- sometimes dispenses food as per program; at other times it doesn't. Read morePublished 26 days ago by Agnes V. Pilgrim
I love this product. The best feature is that you can record a message for your pet.Published 1 month ago by Victoria Alvarez
Terrible, I wish I saw bad rating before I bought it! The food didn't disperse correctly and the programming stopped working after 1 month!Published 1 month ago by Sherry Brown
