Great item and a memory from childhood but be sure you get the Kosher variety and not the one made with Corn syrup

My husband and I recently took a 1 day trip to NYC and while there we tried to get the best NY dining experience, so we ate at Carnegie Deli, where I had to try the "egg cream" - I loved it! When I got home, I tried to replicate the drink with hershey's syrup - it was horrible!!! I went on line and learned that true New Yorkers used only fox's u-bet, so I ordered some. It did not disappoint! This syrup is not gritty like Hershey's tends to be, has a fudgy taste and best of all stays emulsified in the milk and doesn't settle to the bottom of the glass.

If you're from Brooklyn there's really only one chocolate syrup for your milk or egg creams. Fox's is THE cult favorite dating way back maybe even before trolley cars and the original TROLLEY DODGERS! No bona fide Brooklynite or ex-patriate, such as myself, would ever consider a substitute. Hershey be da----!This is the real deal; accept no substitutes. My only regret is the shipping cost from this purveyor. It's cheaper to get on a train and visit the nearest NYC Gristede's; and you get a day in Manhattan to boot! 5 stars plus for this wonderful, unbeatable product. Zero stars for the not to be believed cost to get it home. Demand it of your local super market manager.

I learned how to make chocolate sodas when working at a hand crafted soda counter and always wanted to try the fabled "egg cream". I did my research and heard about Fox's syrup being key. I just finished my first chocolate egg cream 5 minutes ago and I am thrilled.

I admit I was very disappointed when I tasted the Chocolate Syrup after pulling it out of the box. The flavor reminds me of military grade non-perishable chocolate, which is not a horrible thing, just rather plain. The syrup is also quite viscous, like thick oil, for lack of a better example. Mixed with a little milk and plenty of soda water and it's a magical transformation. The flavor does taste better and holds it's strength diluted with milk and water. This is probably thanks to the consistency which keeps all the ingredients bound together, including the escaping CO2. All together it has a delightfully creamy consistency with a mellow chocolate flavor, not something you would see with any other brand of chocolate syrup which would dilute and separate when introduced with a good amount of carbonated water.

My first egg cream, definitely not my last, and even I agree that Fox's is the only way it can be done.

When it comes to chocolate syrup there are really only two choices: Fox's U-Bet and Hershey's. They both have merit; they're both good, but for an old fashioned, New York style egg cream, you must use U-Bet. Hershey's is just a bit too bitter. ( For those of you unfamiliar with this soda-fountain treat, it consists of chocolate syrup [2 parts,] whole milk [3 parts] and soda water [seltzer.] ) (It can also be made with vanilla syrup, but that's another variety.) Despite the name, there are no eggs in it. U-Bet has a great chocolate taste. Also, during the Jewish holiday of Passover, U-Bet is made without corn syrup (only cane sugar.)

Fox's chocolate syrup is by far the best chocolate syrup I have ever used. I saw it in the local grocery store here in Pittsburgh, PA and tried it. After using it for about six months, the local store here stopped selling it. I briefly tried the "other brands" and there's no way I can even go back to them after using Fox's.

Nothing like a professionally made NY Egg Cream, but when you cant wait four hours for a flight, cant afford a multi-hundred airline ticket or have flashbacks when TSA tries to have their way with you, you CAN purchase this as an add on to one of your Amazon orders and have this handy for when you have that sudden craving for an Egg Cream.
I don't know if this is good for anything else, but as my father taught me, "You only have to be great at ONE thing to be successful." Fox's u-bet is great at at least ONE thing. Buy it!

I bought U-bets because I read online on several sites that it would make the perfect Brooklyn Egg Cream. One of my closest friends lover these and was talking about making them at home in California , but she missed the ones in Brooklyn so I did my research and the recipe was perect using this syrup. I can't wait to try the other flavors. It has a nice dark chocolate fudge after taste and is not overly sweet. It blends really well in milk and it's fat free. I'll be buying the big jug soon.
