It's the perfect size for a 40x40mm peltier. You may want to cut it depending on your application. I don't know how well it works with lower power peltiers but with the 92 Watt peltier I'm attempting to use it for it's not enough on it's own. The peltier quickly reaches the saturation point where it'll stop cooling because there's too much heat on the heatsink for it to be able to move anything. That said a tiny fan seems to be enough to remove the heat off the heatsink to let the peltier do it's job so you may want to consider that in larger cooling situations.

It's difficult to get excited about a heat sink. Width matches perfectly with the peltier device I bought, and length is about double that. It is small, so not a massive surface area. But fine for the custom application I want to use it for.

I use this to keep my cell phone cool at home because heat = shorter battery life. I have a Nexus 5 that I use without a case (I'm very careful with my phones). When I'm playing certain games, I keep the phone plugged in because it's the best way to keep a li-ion battery healthy and the battery is a Nexus 5 weak point. But the combination of charging and heavy CPU usage can generate a lot of heat which will also shorten a battery's life. So I just lay my phone on top of this, either holding it in my hand, propping it on my leg, or resting it on a flat surface, and it absorbs a lot of heat from the phone. The matte finish on the back of the Nexus 5 keeps it from sliding off the heat sink at moderate angles. I'm careful not to let the sharp corners of the heat sink contact the camera lens on back. It's a good length and width to cover the hottest part of the phone's back.

They are in fact aluminum. However, as they are merely extrusions, one would think that they should be cheaper but alas.

I bought a handful of these things and they came all scratched up inside the packaging. How did that occur? Who knows. I really don't care all that much that these things were nicked but I do care that it means that the company that makes these things didn't really take care of them after they were made. Have they warped out due to mishandling? It just means that the company doesn't really care as much as it could. Even in something so simple as an aluminum cooling fin, I think that's not a great thing to be known for.

Dimensions were slightly off: 100 x 40 x 20mm. Not a huge deal, but would be helpful to have the correct product dimensions listed.

solid aluminum heat sink. you need to manage the power/ heat dissipation. I used with 70 watts peltier but get extremely over heated. Maybe you can use it with 50 watts or less.

I'd suggest thermal paste/tape with these, of course, but for the unique uses you may need, they're cheap and effective. Of course if you ever take them to a recycler you'll only get about $0.01 haha

I bought this to cool an LED and works very, very well. The only downside to it is the fins are a little thick so I used some smaller heatsinks thermally epoxied on to help with diffusing heat.
