Order came as advertised. It works just fine. It registers metal at about 4mm. Unfortunately, it acts like a Normally-Closed Tubular sensor according to my 3D Printer. It registers as triggered when its plugged in, not next to metal. When the light becomes brighter, AKA It registers something, my 3D Printer registers the signal as open. This could be end user error. I could need to reflash my board. But as of right now, it doesn't work for what I need it for.

Bought this for auto leveling my 3D printer bed. I have a heated aluminum bed plate and this will detect it. With steel, the detect distance is about 4 mm but with aluminum, the detection distance is reliable at about 1 mm. I will use this but if I had it to do over again, I would get one with a longer detection distance like 8mm, then with aluminum, it would be about 2mm.

I converted my 3D print bed to auto leveling and am using this with a RAMPS 1.4. I put a diode on the signal line, configured the Mega 2650 with a pull-up and power the sensor at 12V. Works great. A comment I found on Stack Exchange that helped my understanding, is that the schematic on the sensor is external components, i.e. battery and load connected to the sensor wires.

Works great for 3D Printing! Wired directly to the Z-Min endstop on the RAMPS 1.4. YES thats 5v! No voltage divider, no resistors. Plug and Play! Though I will say I am using a 3mm Aluminum plate as my printing surface, 5v is giving me a few mm sensing distance, more than enough!

Works well, no problems to report after well over 200 hours of printing. The only thing I did not like about this sensor was the jagged washers which I swapped out for flat ones. I get the idea behind the ones it came with, but the flat ones made adjustments much easier and precise.
