at the lack of effort this company has put into disgaea since it's inception on the ps2. Upon playing disgaea 2 (note: i love the series and have put over 300 hours into 1 and 2), i spoke with friends saying how awesome it would be to have an online multiplayer (or even local) mode, where you can battle with your friends and strangers online, and potentially even create your own levels. Alas Disgaea 3 came out, and did hardly anything to improve upon it's predecessor, and no MP....now we're at 4....and still no MP. This is why i didn't buy 3 and i won't be buying 4. I'm not going to keep pouring all those hours into disgaea after disgaea only to keep rinse/repeating with no Multiplayer. So, have fun supporting these clowns if you want. they'll get my money when MP is introduced.
Quite frankly I'm sick of developers ham-fisting multiplayer in to games that don't stand to benefit from it just because it's the thing to do these days. Disgaea would certainly benefit from some core advancements but I don't see multiplayer as the answer at all. It would be nearly impossible to fairly match opponents which leaves me wondering what the point would be.
Level creation would be fun but it would also open up the opportunity to trivialize the endeavor of getting super powerful characters. People could just slap +100% experience panels all over the place and lock rangeless enemies on to islands to be picked away at for massive level gains.
I think it'd go a long way personally if they just updated the look of the game. I'm all about cameos done right but as far as I can tell we're getting the same units and monsters by a large margin which is my lingering disappointment with the series.
i respect your views, but there are honestly things they could do to make a multiplayer component work, like not allowing xp squares for one. And there could be match types where the characters you leveled could be de-leveled for a level 100 only match...but let's say that you got your character to level 1,299 and the other guy only got his to 135 or so, then maybe give a couple of perks to the player who has higher levels that is put to 100, or perhaps the ability to keep their moves or gear, but have their stats scaled down to match a level 100, so still giving them at the very least a slight advantage. IDK, i'm not a game developer, but i'm certain there are ways to do it. Its quite close to Chess in theory. But yes, graphically as well they could do so much more. I did hear they are redrawing all the sprites for the highest definition screens for 4 though.
oh wow, i forgot i'm not allowed to have higher expectations. and how about reading before sounding ignorant? i put over 300 hours into each of the first two disgaes....yeah, i'm not a fan or anything. Doof.
If you were a fan, you wouldn't be bitching about the lack of a feature that has nothing to do with the game. Disgaea is built on a strong single player experience, it's not a multiplayer party game. And for the record, throwing a hissy fit because Disgaea 4 (fortunately) doesn't have multiplayer functionality doesn't qualify as "higher expectations" it's more like trying to make every game into the same cookie cutter crap. You'd make a great EA fan, their entire business model is based on producing interchangeable games.
Um... Disgaea 4 does have multiplayer. Check out the latest trailer. You can do several things. 1) Steal friend's characters (tossing into base panel) and then disciplining them. 2) Fighting other people's teams. 3) my favorite: designing your OWN pirate ship
I'm sure there were other things, but its a long trailer and i'm not going to re-watch it right now.
