I initially thought of ordering a smaller size, but am happy I did not, because this nice bookstand actually is a lot smaller -- practically speaking -- than I thought; thus, I'm happy I ordered the 15.4" x 11" version. With this size you can fit average-sized novels, larger novels and non-fiction books, and even cookbooks. If you want to read really thick cookbooks, I would recommend the next larger size instead of this one. But if you have very limited space on your desktop or are using a 36" wide desk converter, like the VariDesk Pro Plus 36 that I bought this desktop stand for (AND you do not read extra large books) you might be fine with the next SMALLER size to fit three objects next to each other: e.g. a laptop, the desktop stand, and a second monitor. On my VariDesk Pro Plus 36, I can fit this 15.4" x 11" bookstand by angling both my laptop and my second monitor slightly on each side of the centered bookstand. Since I primarily look at the book while typing -- only looking at the second screen monitor on my right slightly whenever I feel I may have typed a typo & only looking at my laptop to the left to watch Kpop and Jpop YouTube video playlists I love to listen to as I type -- I have the bookstand centered, to avoid neck strain.
I have yet to see if this bookstand holds up to repeated use or if the clips that hold the pages in place will break much too soon. If that happens, I will come back and amend my rating of 5. But for now, I think the stand is excellent for the price. I like how I can place a good-sized book at the center of the bookstand and it's nice and deep to handle the thickness of a good-sized book. I also like how the two prongs that keep the pages in place have a silicone tip to prevent hurting the pages (and prevent page slippage) and I can move them slight to the side of the page to move on to the next page, then move the two prongs back to position to hold the next two pages in place.
